    2-day skill development workshop for journalists organized by DIPR Kargil concludes.

    Kargil, Dec 18, 2024: As part of a series of events, the two-day skill development workshop for journalists organized by Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Kargil concluded today and was attended by journalists and media team of the department.
    Day two of the workshop was graced by Executive Councillor Information, LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi and Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho with their presence.
    DIPR Kargil had invited Meeqat Hashmi, Strategic Partnerships Manager and Associate Executive Editor with ABP News; Jamal Afroz Khan, filmmaker and cinematographer (with 18 years of experience as Head of Camera and Production Design at Aaj Tak and currently serving at Rekhta Foundation) and Iftikhar Hussain, cinematographer & photographer, from Planet Ladakh, as the resource persons for the two-day workshop.
    Assistant Information Officer, Anwar Ali Tsarpa; Senior Assistant, DIPR Kargil, Mohd Yousuf; Editor, DIPR Kargil, Mansoor Peer; Reporters, Photographers, staff of DIPR-Kargil; President, Press Club of Ladakh (Kargil), Mohammad Hussain Khalo; members of Press Club, Kargil; Executive Editor, Voice of Ladakh, Syed Hashim Razvi; News Correspondent, Gulistan News, Mohd. Ishaq, Copy Editor Akashwani News, Kargil Anayat Ali, Stringer DD News, Mansoor Ahmad; Munsif TV correspondent Nasir Hussain Zaidi; Ibrahim Firdous Correspondent Rangyul, local journalists working with print, electronic and online media outlets also attended the workshop besides others.
    The guests were warmly welcomed with traditional khataqs, while resource persons were honoured with traditional shawls. Earlier, the resource persons shared their valuable insights on various aspects of journalism, particularly in digital content creation, the working mechanisms of photography, etc.
    The resource persons delivered insightful presentations: Iftikhar Hussain discussed photography and photojournalism, emphasizing their significance in online media; Meeqat Hashmi highlighted various aspects of sustainable digital media in Kargil while Jamal Afroz Khan explored the scope and opportunities in photography.
    In his address, Executive Councillor Er. Phunchok Tashi thanked the resource persons for contributing to the success of the workshop and commended DIPR Kargil for organizing it to enhance the skills of journalists.
    Tashi highlighted the significant contribution of the media fraternity in Kargil to the socio-economic growth of the District. He also highlighted the concerns regarding their financial sustenance which, he said, needs to be addressed.
    The Executive Councillor expressed happiness over the fact that DIPR-Kargil has initiated several capacity-building programmes for journalists.
    Tashi also expressed happiness over the allotment of land for Press Club of Kargil and hoped for early construction of the building for the convenience of journalists.
    Further, he said LAHDC-Kargil acknowledges the media’s contributions and considers it a vital part of the district’s administrative system. The Executive Councillor advised journalists to maintain their credibility and adhere to the ethical code of conduct in journalism.
    EC Tashi also expressed profound sorrow on the sad demise of Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan, the two-time Member of Parliament, retired DIG, and a dedicated politician. He expressed sympathy with the grieved family.
    Joint Director Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho, appreciated the role of DIPR- Kargil for organizing the workshop and assured that such workshops will become a regular feature for the welfare of journalists. The Joint Director applauded the media fraternity for practicing ethical and responsible journalism despite various limitations.
    He also commended the dynamic role of Executive Councillor Er. Phunchok Tashi for his unwavering support and active involvement in various initiatives of the Department.
    Kacho expressed happiness that Kargil is growing in multiple creative spheres and noted that the DIPR-Ladakh is continually creating platforms for capacity building of journalists. He also highlighted many initiatives of the Department which helps support journalism in general and the media institutions of Ladakh in particular.
    Kacho also expressed happiness that young journalists and filmmakers have entered the field, excelled in their respective domains and inspired others. He noted that new media is still in its infancy in Ladakh and emphasized that such workshops will help enhance journalists’ skills.
    President Press Club, Kargil, Mohammad Hussain Khalo expressed gratitude to DIPR-Kargil for organizing the enriching workshop for journalists besides highlighting the initiatives of the department for the welfare of the media fraternity.
    He thanked the Department of Information & Public Relations, Ladakh, Executive Councillor, Er. Punchok Tashi; DC Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse and Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho for allocating land near LAHDC Complex for constructing the new building of Press Club, Kargil.
    On behalf of the Press Club, Khalo requested EC Tashi to expedite the allocation of funds for the new Press Club which he said will be instrumental in addressing the challenges faced by journalists.
    The resource persons were awarded with appreciation certificates and momentos while all the participants were also given appreciation certificates.
    Assistant Cameraman, Hakima Bano Ali presented a welcome speech, conducted the programme’s proceedings while AIO Anwar Ali Tsarpa presented the vote of thanks.
    The participating journalists and media team of DIPR-Kargil thanked the Department for organizing the workshop and hoped that such workshops would continue to be held regularly in order to improve and enhance their skills.
