Leh, Aug 21, 2023: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), attended the Teacher Felicitation Programme organised by the Department of School Education to felicitate teachers, master lecturers, headmasters and principals who performed well in Class 10 and 12 JKBOSE annual examinations for the year 2022-23.
Terming the event as one of the most important he has attended since assuming the charge of Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh six months ago, the HLG stated that the teachers were felicitated because teaching is one of the best and most noble professions in the world. He also stated that education is one of the best attributes one can possess and that one can achieve everything in life if one possesses good education. He highlighted the important roles of parents and teachers in a student’s life.
The HLG stated that parents, relatives and teachers should encourage students to come up with their own start-ups and become entrepreneurs so that they could be job providers instead of job seekers instead of advising them to study to seek government jobs as it is not possible to provide government jobs to everyone. He also stated that teachers have crucial roles in changing the mindset and highlighted the focus on developing core capacities and life skills in the National Education Policy 2020 to develop students’ entrepreneurial skills to enable them to come up with their own start-ups/ventures. Stating that the Ladakhi youth will be frustrated if they remain unemployed, the HLG highlighted the efforts being made for the declaration of the result of the SSC Selection Posts/Ladakh 2022 and the establishment of Ladakh’s own Service Selection Board (SSB).
The HLG highlighted five important factors in ensuring quality education: place of teaching, dedicated teachers, books/curriculum, training and inspection. He also highlighted the issue of teacher attachment due to which students suffer. He promised to take necessary steps to stop the attachment of teachers and also freeze the pay of teachers if required.
The HLG advised the teachers to be honest with themselves and stated this attribute helps in earning the respect of the students and their peers. He also informed about efforts being made by the UT Administration to develop the education sector for the overall benefit of students from Ladakh.
The HLG suggested felicitating teachers and academic faculty in two categories- academic management and meritorious teachers.
The HLG distributed the Certificate of Appreciation and Appreciation Award to meritorious teachers, master lecturers, headmasters and principals of different government schools for their valuable contributions in helping the students perform well in Class 10 and 12 JKBOSE Annual Examinations 2022-23.
Chairman/CEC LAHDC Leh, Shri Tashi Gyalson, congratulated the award winners and highlighted their pivotal role in building society by showing the youth the way towards a brighter future. He expressed hope to see teachers and other academic faculty in mentoring and guiding the youth to walk on the righteous path. He stated that education will help the Administration and both Hill Councils to achieve the goal of becoming a model union territory in the country.
Shri Gyalson informed about the implementation of Social Ethical and Emotional (SEE) learning in schools in Ladakh and commended the initiative to set up Community Radio in Ladakh for the benefit of students. He highlighted various initiatives taken by LAHDC Leh in the development of the education sector, viz. establishment of around 27 Digi-Labs, the distribution of YounTabs and laptops to students, etc. He stated that LAHDC Leh would continue to provide support to meritorious and deserving students from Ladakh.
Principal Secretary, Shri Sanjeev Khirwar, informed about interventions/initiatives being taken by the Department to provide quality education to students and to make education accessible to all through technological interventions.
