    2nd edition of Ladakh Education Fair concludes at GDC Drass.

    Kargil, August 25, 2023: The second edition of the two-day Ladakh Education Fair, organized in different constituent Colleges of Ladakh on 24th and 25th August, concluded today at GDC Drass. The event was organized in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education UT Ladakh and Ladakh Skill Development Mission.
    Notably, the opening ceremony of the educational fair was inaugurated by Commissioner/ Secretary (Hr. Edu/Tech. Edu/S&TW/ Information, UT Ladakh) Padma Angmo, on Thursday.
    The fair is an umbrella programme to educate and create awareness among people in general and students in particular about Choice of Subjects, Career Guidance, Apprenticeship and Scholarships besides exposing students to skilling opportunities.
    The valedictory ceremony was graced by Deputy Commander Colonel Rajesh Kumar Singh of 56 Mountain Brigade as the chief guest and Dr Mohd Nawaz Sharaf Ud Din as the guest of honour.
    Nazir Hussain, Deputy Secretary LAACL Kargil was present as special guest. While interacting with the audiences, the chief guest congratulated the organizers for hosting such meaningful and successful event and giving platforms to the students of remote areas of Ladakh.
    Expressing his confidence, he said that the education fair would surely benefit the student by clearing their doubts. He also assured full assistance from Army in organizing career guidance in armed forces.
    The guest of honor expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the event for hosting such fair. He said that fair like this makes students open and familiarize them with latest innovation and avenues. He also encouraged for students exchange programs with different institutes of India in future.
    Earlier, Dr Amjad Ali Abassi, Principal of the college welcomed the chief guest, guest of honor and special guests with traditional khataks and mementos. In his welcome address, he expressed his gratitude to all in making this 2-day event a successful one.
    After the welcome address, Mohd Ali Shabir, Convener LEF 2023, gave a brief summary of the event. Day 2nd of the fair comprised various technical sessions in which students of college and different schools of Drass Sub-Division participated.
    There were eight resource persons from different fields. In the first technical session Mohd Ali, Research Scholar, Department of Computer Science, Kargil Campus, UoL spoke on the topic “Artificial Intelligence”. He talked at length about ‘AI’ and its applications and how it is going to be next-generation technology in near future.
    In the 2nd technical session, Shipra Gupta, Corporate HR, World Record-7 Borders, Solo traveler via road spoke about different career options available to students these days and advised them to travel as much as they can to gain practical knowledge in life.
    Mustafa Haji, Lawyer at J&K High Court and District Court Kargil was the speaker for the 3rd technical session. He spoke on the topic “Know Your Civic Rights”. He first deliberated on how to pursue career in the legal field and its scope.
    He also spoke on the ‘civil rights’ wherein he intimated the young students about consumer protection rights, cybercrime and corporal punishment by teachers and the possible measures that could be taken to sue the perpetrator in the court as per the law.
    The speaker for the 4th technical session was Zhara Begum, Lecturer Polytechnic College Leh. She briefed students about ‘apprenticeship’ and different skill courses and urged them to take maximum opportunities of different skill courses available in UT Ladakh free of cost. She further discussed the eligibility criteria for skill courses.
    Dr Mohd Nawaz Sharaf Ud Din, IDES was the speaker for the 5th technical session. He spoke about his career journey as a civil servant. He stressed that one should only join civil service if he/she has an interest and zeal to serve society.
    Additionally, he discussed in detail the contribution of civil servants in different aspects of life. He also talked about the pattern of the UPSC examination like Prelim, Main and Interview and the importance of having consistency in the preparation for such exams.
    In the 6th technical session, Sayeeda Bano, Psychiatric Nurse at District Hospital, Kargil spoke on ‘Mental Health and Wellness”. She threw light on the importance of physical exercise, socialization and indulging in other activities to keep one away from stress-related diseases.
    During the 7th technical session, Inspector James Dechan, SHO Drass spoke on “Drugs Abuse and Cyber Crime”. He briefed the audience about the phising attack, ATM frauds, Sextortion, loan scams etc. and its preventive measures.
    Dr Nasreen Fatima, MBBS, MS OBS, Gynaecologist District Hospital, Kargil was the last speaker of the session who spoke about importance of menstrual hygiene. She talked in detail about female genital tract and to use menstrual cups to prevent cervical cancer, which is largely prevalent among women. In the end, she distributed free menstrual cups to girl students.
    In-depth discussions between the participants and the resource persons followed each technical session. The technical sessions were moderated by Assistant Professors, Mumtaz Ahmed, Mohd Yaseen, Dr Shah Niwaz, Kaniz Fatima, Sajad Hussain, Dr Imtiyaz Hussain and Farida Bano respectively.
    Earlier, a famous theatre group from Kargil “Ranthak” performed a Nukkad Natak on the topic ‘Depression’. It artistically showcased how people, especially, students go through depression due to societal pressure and how people still believe in superstitions in curing such diseases in spite of taking such cases directly to a psychiatrist/doctor.
    Followed by chief guest and guest of honor speeches, mementos and certificates were distributed to the different participants of the 2-day event.

    Assistant Professor Samina Rehman conducted the valedictory session. The event concluded with the formal vote of thanks delivered by Mehnaz Anjum a 5th semester student.
