Delegation comprising IDES officers calls on Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd).
Leh, July 16, 2024: A delegation comprising Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES) led by Deputy Director, National Institute of Defence Estates Management, Dr Tanu Jain called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. Advisor to the HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS; ADGP, Ladakh, Dr SD Singh Jamwal, IPS and Commissioner/ Secretary to the HLG, Shri L Franklin, IAS were present in the meeting.
Dr Tanu Jain apprised the HLG that IDES is formed through the UPSC civil services examination and its officers are trained at the National Institute of Defence Estate Management in New Delhi. She informed that these officers serve as Chief Executive Officers in Cantonments, overseeing civic administration and land management.
Dr Jian highlighted the Directorate General, Defence Estates (DGDE)’s role in advising the Ministry of Defence on Cantonments and land matters, including land acquisition, settlement, rehabilitation of displaced persons, and requisitioning of lands and buildings. She also shared the DGDE’s vision, mission and achievements.
Advisor to the HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal welcomed the IDES officers and emphasised the importance of their work, particularly in Ladakh’s border areas where the need of defence land is high. He stressed the necessity of efficient land acquisition practices and close coordination between the administration and defence to resolve land disputes.
ADGP Ladakh, Dr SD Singh Jamwal expressed his best wishes to the officers and praised the professional coordination within the defence services.
The HLG congratulated the officers and encouraged them to uphold the Cantonment’s legacy, which dates back to British rule and its ongoing significance post 1947. He urged them to focus on land requirements for defence, resolving court cases related to defence land disputes, enhancing the Cantonment area and promoting plantation within the Cantonment areas.
The HLG felicitated the officers on the occasion.
