    Sub-division level mock drill on earthquake conducted in Drass.
    Kargil, August 22, 2024: An extensive earthquake mock drill was conducted today in Sub Division Drass in presence of various key stakeholders to prepare and educate the community on effective response measures during any untoward incident.
    The drill was aimed to enhance preparedness and coordination among different agencies and the local population in the event of an earthquake.
    The mock drill was initiated with a comprehensive demonstration led by Sajad Hussain, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science at Govt. Degree College Drass, and Noor Mohd, Zonal Physical Incharge, who provided crucial insights on earthquake safety and the importance of readiness.
    Abdullah Khan, SHO Drass, further reinforced the significance of immediate and coordinated action during such emergencies.
    The drill was conducted under the supervision of Incharge SDM Drass, Ghulam Asgar, who emphasized the importance of such exercises in a region prone to seismic activity.
    He also praised the collaboration between the civil administration, law enforcement, and the military in ensuring the safety of the residents of Drass.
    Indian Army personnel were integral to the success of the drill, providing essential support through their Quick Reaction Team (QRT) and Medical units. Subedar Rajinder and Havaldar Kuldeep of the Army Police led the military’s participation, ensuring discipline and coordination throughout the exercise. The medical team, led by Subedar Patil Kamalakar, demonstrated emergency medical procedures, including first aid and the transport of injured persons to safety.
    The drill simulated a real-life earthquake scenario where participants enacted evacuation procedures, search and rescue operations, and the establishment of emergency response centres. The event highlighted the collaborative efforts required among various agencies to effectively manage disaster situations.
    Volunteers of the Ulama Council Drass also actively participated with enthusiasm. The residents of Drass were actively involved in the drill, practicing evacuation techniques and receiving first-hand experience in emergency response. The mock drill served as a reminder of the unpredictability of natural disasters and the need for continuous preparedness.
    In the end, the SDM Drass thanked all participants and collaborators, including the Indian Army, police, and educational institutions, for their dedication and commitment to the safety and well-being of the community.
    He reiterated the administration’s commitment to conducting regular drills and training sessions to ensure that the residents of Drass are well-prepared to face any natural disaster.
