Khaltse, October 3, 2024: Government Degree College Khaltse organized a four-day educational trip for students of all semesters from September 28 till October 1st, 2024. The journey commenced with a ceremonial flagged off by Professor Stanzin Yangdol, principal of the college.
During the trip, students explored significant historical monuments and engaged with diverse cultures. They visited Diskit and Samstanling monasteries, where Dr. Tsering Norphel, Assistant Professor of Sociology, shared insights on the historical significance of the monastic centers in Nubra Valley.
The group also visited key border areas like Turtuk and Thang on the 2nd day, where they interacted with locals to learn about pre- and post-partition narratives and border politics.
On the third day, students explored ancient historical sites, including the Murgi Petroglyphs and the Hot Springs in Panamik. Dr. Amjad Khan, Assistant Professor of History, talked about the importance of the petroglyphs in understanding early historical and cultural contexts. He also highlighted the ancient Silk Route and Nubra’s role as a vital halting point during those times. At the Hot Springs in Panamik, students learned about the therapeutic properties of the mineral-rich waters, composed of sulfur, magnesium, and calcium, believed to help skin ailments and joint pain. Further, the team conducted a cleanliness drive around the Hot Springs as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2.0.
The college expresses heartfelt gratitude to the Director of College Affairs, Higher Education Department UT Ladakh for the financial support that facilitated this enriching experience. The tour provided the students with hands-on experiences that enriched their understanding of socio-cultural dynamics, historical context, teamwork, and social skills.
