    GDC Zanskar concludes 3-day educational tour to Kargil, Drass.
    Kargil, October 05, 2024: Government Degree College Zanskar successfully conducted a three-day tour for its 3rd Semester in Kargil and Drass starting on October 02, 2024.
    The students explored the glacier deposits of Minamarg, gained insights into glacial formations and their impact on the landscape.
    They also interacted with geologists and engineers working on the vital Zojila Tunnel project and learnt about the challenges and advancements in tunnel engineering.
    A notable discovery during the tour was the pyrite crystals located in metamorphic rocks extracted from Zojila Tunnel, providing a real-world example of mineral formation.
    Additionally, students visited the sedimentary layers of Matayen to study the attitude and orientation of the rocks, enhancing their understanding of sedimentary processes.
    Students were also engaged in an interaction with the students of GDC, Drass.
    As part of the tour, the students also visited Munshi Habibullah Mission Higher Secondary School (MHMS), Rewa Society at Kargil to gain practical exposure to inclusive education and rehabilitation efforts for differently-abled students.
    Sajjad Hussain Munshi, Coordinator of Rewa Society, introduced the differently abled students and the mission and activities of Rewa Society.
    He provided an overview of the therapies and educational programs offered to specially-abled students, emphasizing the institution’s role in their rehabilitation and development.
    Shagufta Zehra, faculty member at GDC Zanskar, highlighted the objective of the visit, saying it was aimed to provide students with practical knowledge.
    Dr. Farzana Akhtar, Consultant Physiotherapist at Rewa Society, presented a detailed account of different types of disabilities among the enrolled students, identification and interventions designed to support their learning. She discussed the tailored educational approaches and therapies used to aid the students’ academic and social development.
    The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Sajjad Hussain, Assistant Professor of Political Science at GDC Zanskar. He expressed his appreciation for the Rewa Society’s significant achievements in inclusive education, which provide hope and opportunity to differently-abled students throughout the Kargil district.
    He also stressed the importance of continued collaboration between GDC Zanskar and Rewa Society in identifying children with disabilities and raising awareness through future outreach programs.
    The tour was conducted under the supervision of Syed Hashim faculty in Geology, Shagufta Zehra faculty in education and Sajjad Hussain faculty in Pol. Science.
    The tour provided student practical knowledge and first-hand learning experience. The college administration expressed gratitude to Dr Amjad, Principal GDC, Drass and Diskit, Principal GDC, Kargil for providing accommodation facilities.
