1st UT Ladakh Boxing Championship concludes at SAI Training Centre, Kargil.
Kargil, October 16, 2024: The 1st UT Ladakh Boxing Championship concluded successfully on Tuesday at SAI Training Centre, Kargil, with participation from around 100 athletes from both Kargil and Leh districts.
The three-day event, organized by the Ladakh Amateur Boxing Association, culminated in a grand closing ceremony, where winners were honored for their outstanding performances.
Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon who was the chief guest lauded the efforts of Ladakh Boxing Association for organizing the first-ever UT Ladakh Boxing Championship.
He expressed his pride in the accomplishments of local athletes and role of LAHDC Kargil in supporting sports associations for the promotion and development of sports in the region.
The CEC made special mention of Secretary General Tenzing Chogyal, Ladakh’s International Referee NTO official at Women World Boxing Championship, acknowledging his contributions to the sport and expressing pride in the growing achievements of young players at the national level.
“The sports sector has seen remarkable development in Ladakh since becoming a Union Territory, particularly in Kargil, where our athletes have excelled both nationally and internationally. LAHDC Kargil remains fully committed to resolving the issues faced by our athletes and enhancing sports infrastructure,” he said.
Dr. Jaffer Akhoon also outlined the developmental projects undertaken by LAHDC to improve sports infrastructure in Kargil, ensuring continued support for local athletes.
The CEC thanked the officials, International Refree Himanshu Chowdhary from Railway Sports Promotion Board, and Pritam Singh from Sikkim and John from Arunachal Pradesh for their presence during the Championship and guiding the whole tournament to a successful conclusion.
Prof. Nasir Shabani was the special guest, along with Haji Mirza Hussain, Haji Mohd Ali, Syed Mehraj Uddin Shah, Anayat Ali Shotopa and Sajjad Ali, an international player representing various sports associations of UT Ladakh.
During the closing ceremony, medals were distributed among the winners, and mementos were presented to participants, guests and media persons.
The awards for the Most Promising Player were given to Willayat Ali (male) and Nusrat Fatima (female) from the remote village of Parkachik in Kargil, both of whom demonstrated exceptional skill and potential throughout the tournament.
Tenzing Chosgyal General Secretary Ladakh Amateur Boxing Association said that the inaugural championship marks a new beginning for boxing in Ladakh, fostering talent and creating a platform for athletes to shine at both national and international levels.
He also thanked SAI Training Centre Kargil particularly Executive Director SAI Manjushree Dayandand for her support to conduct the championship smoothly. He also thanked Ghulam Mustafa Incharge SAI Kargil, Mohd Ali, Sadiq Ali, Ghulam Abass, Medical Team led by Dr Ghulam, Police and other departments.
