    Says NEP a path-breaking reform that redefines role of higher education in empowering students
    Kargil, Nov 04, 2024: Controller of Examination, University of Ladakh, Prof. Deskyong Namgyal today visited Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar and engaged with the faculty members and students to discuss the implementation of New Education Policy (NEP)-2020 and its impact in the colleges of UT Ladakh.
    Since NEP 2020 was implemented in the colleges of UT Ladakh in 2023, the curriculum framework has changed. The aim of visit of Prof. Namgyal was to assess opportunities and challenges of NEP 2020 in the colleges.
    Mohd Ishaq Principal of the college welcomed Prof. Namgyal with traditional Khatak and provided an overview of the college. He emphasized the significance of the visit in fostering educational development and the importance of NEP 2020.
    In his speech, Prof. Namgyal emphasized on NEP 2020 goal of fostering skill-based education that prepares students for the evolving and increasing market job. He said the New Education Policy is a path-breaking reform that redefines the role of higher education in empowering students, enabling them to become versatile and well-rounded individuals capable of thriving in a rapidly changing world, but no doubt have some challenges particularly in colleges of low enrolment.
    However implementation of NEP 2020 is a necessity, and will be streamlined with the passage of time. He mentioned that in the past, the yearly system was changed to semester and then to CBCS and now we are under NEP 2020. Changes are inevitable and always be prepared to adopt it.
    He also distributed questionnaires regarding opportunities and challenges of NEP 2020 among students and faculty members to get first-hand information.
    Later, an open discussion on NEP implementation in the colleges was held in which faculty members and students exchanged their ideas and challenges.
    During an interaction with the faculty members, Prof. Namgyal stressed on the adoption of mentor-mentee system, for improving enrolment and overall development of the students.
