GDC Kargil holds annual alumni meet 2024.
Kargil, Nov 05, 2024: The Internal Quality Assessment Committee (IQAC) Government Degree College, Kargil today held its alumni meet 2024 in its Seminar Hall.
The program started with the National Anthem followed by the College Tarana. Professor Zahoor Ahmed (Incharge Principal) presented the welcome address to all the alumni who participated in the program from all walks of life.
Dr. Mohammad Yaseen, a distinguished alumnus of the college and research scholar at Achen University Germany, joined online and shared the experience of his higher educational journey from Degree College Kargil to the distinguished research Institute of Germany.
Arif, a student of Botany at PG Department of University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus, also shared his experiences at the college and expressed his deep sense of gratitude to the teachers of the college for shaping his educational career.
Dr. Zakir Hussain another distinguished alumnus of the college shared his experiences during his college days in GDC College which paved the way for him to pursue higher education at Punjab University upto Ph.D. level. Dr. Zakir is serving in the same college as one of the faculty members in the department of chemistry.
Renowned Journalist, Mohammad Mussa from Ladakh Express being a distinguished alumnus of the college, expressed his nostalgic memories and urged the students to opt for mass communication and journalism as one of the career options and extended his help whenever required.
A girl alumnus of the college batch 2020, now pursuing MSc Botany from UoL, Kargil Campus recalled the immense support from her college teachers to direct her towards the current course. She specially expressed gratitude to Dr. Javed Naqi for guiding her to join Ledby Organization. She urged other students to face any opportunity to come on stage in order to boost their self-confidence.
Head Department of Education, Kaneez Fatima who is a distinguished alumnus of the college, while sharing her success story of becoming one of the foremost female assistant professors in Kargil despite many odds. She enthralled the audience with wonderful poetic lines.
Other alumni; Archo Hakima, Saleel Fatima, Siddiqa Banoo, Leela Banoo, Archo Kaneez and Zakir Hussain also shared their experiences, talents and gratitude on the occasion.
Chocho Sakina a distinguished alumnus and a NET/JRF Qualified student of UoL gave the credit of her achievements to the college teachers who inspired her during her college days. She urged the students not to forget the selfless contribution of teachers in their lives.
Prof. Hakeema Banoo also shared her story of college days when she would pursue her undergraduate course in the same college she is teaching currently. She advised the young students to be serious about their studies for securing a distinguished career in this competitive atmosphere.
Dr. Javed Iqbal Naqi in his address appreciated GDC Kargil for organizing this meet and giving the alumni to have a reunion in the college once again. He said alumni has a role in the development of an institution. He suggested the alumni contribute to their alma mater as volunteer teachers.
Dr. Javed had been recently invited to a fellowship for Nobel Prize Teachers Summit at Stockholm Sweden. He briefly informed the students about different fellowship and scholarships and urged them to avail such opportunities with a proactive approach.
ANO Lt. Dr. Murtaza enlightened the audience about benefits of pursuing NCC and informed that the NCC aspirants are now no longer needed to travel to Leh as a separate Batallion has been introduced in Kargil as well.
Convenor IQAC Prof. Nasir Ul Mehdi Shabani highlighted the importance of alumni meet. He said alumni meet can contribute to their alma mater through different means and their respective specialisations. He said, young minds can come up with new ideas to contribute through this institution to the society at large. He urged that it’s time to concentrate on the ways to let the students pave a way forward to the students to excel according to their innate ability and speciality.
Prof. Shabani advised that the pass out students should be proud to be alumni of the GDC Kargil. He also requested the alumni to contribute to the college in terms of finance and service to their alma mater. IQAC expected from the alumni in this regard in the coming times before the college files its documents for NAAC Accreditation.
Prof. Nasir Ud Din Khafi enthralled the audience with purgi poetry and a newly composed college tarana. Head Department of Botany Prof. Razia Khatoon presented the vote of thanks to all for making the program a success, while Prof. Hakeema Khatoon moderated the proceedings of the program.
