Kargil, November 08, 2024: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) on Friday chaired a meeting of senior officers and officials in Kargil and held a detailed discussion on introduction of competitive coaching programs for students, introducing B.Ed course in University of Ladakh, arrangements for patients, students and passengers who need to travel from Leh and Kargil to outside the UT and vice-versa in winter.

Education, Padma Angmo, IIS; Secretary Higher Education, School Education, Skill Development, Bhanu Prabha, IAS; Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, IAS; Additional Superintendent of Police Kargil, Mujeeb-Ur-Rehman, Director Finance, Safdar Ali; Director School Education, Tsering Paldan were present in the meeting.
The meeting was aimed to enhance educational opportunities and ensure safe winter travel, evacuation plans for passengers, patients, students between Leh-Kargil to Srinagar, Jammu and Chandigarh and vice versa as the Ladakh remains cut off during winters.
The meeting discussed that the arrangements should be made for winter air travel in advance to ensure that people do not face any kind of difficulty.
Various suggestions were put forth by the officers and officials. The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh emphasized the need for advance planning and arrangements.
During the meeting, commencement of B.Ed Course at University of Ladakh also came up for discussion. Following the discussion, it was decided that B.Ed Course in Ladakh be started as soon as possible so that students don’t need to travel outside for the same.
The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor directed the concerned officials to expedite the introduction of B.Ed course at University of Ladakh to enhance teaching education. The meeting also discussed issue of B.Ed students who have their examination centres outside the UT Ladakh.
During the meeting, the introducing of coaching programs for meritorious students in Ladakh also came up, covering both academic and competitive levels. It was aimed to enhance student performance and provide better educational support.
During the meeting, it was brought out that the meritorious students from both Leh and Kargil districts are sent outside the Ladakh UT for NEET coaching on scholarship basis.Additionally, for civil services preparation, 25 students from Leh district are sponsored annually to pursue coaching outside the Union Territory, supporting them in competitive examinations.
The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh directed to replicate the model of Leh in Kargil district for civil services coaching. The HLG said that the annual quota will be increased to 40 from each district, allowing more candidates to take benefit from coaching opportunities.
