    GDC Drass conducts outdoor practical session for high-altitude trekking guide program.

    Kargil, Nov 27, 2024: As part of the comprehensive High-Altitude Trekking Guide program, Department of Skill Development, Govt. Degree College, Drass on Tuesday organized an engaging and hands-on outdoor practical session for its students.
    The dynamic event provided participants with essential training in key mountaineering and trekking skills, further solidifying the college’s commitment to practical and industry-focused education.
    The session, led by experienced instructor Suhail Ahmad Bhat, took place in the scenic outdoors surrounding Drass, renowned for its rugged and challenging terrain.
    The activities focused on critical mountaineering techniques such as tent pitching, campsite setup, rope management and essential knots used in trekking and climbing.
    Participants also learned team coordination, safety protocols and environmental conservation practices—skills essential for managing high-altitude expeditions in real-world conditions.
    On the occasion, Principal, GDC Drass Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi praised the initiative and said that they aim to provide students with real-life experiences that bridge the gap between classroom learning and fieldwork.
    Participants expressed enthusiasm for the session, noting how it allowed them to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world context.
    “This session gave us the confidence to handle outdoor challenges effectively. The hands-on experience in campsite setup and rope work was invaluable,” said a participant.
    The program also highlighted the tourism potential of Drass, positioning the town as a hub for adventure sports and trekking activities.
    The Department of Skill Development emphasized its mission to train students in sustainable tourism practices, ensuring that future trekking guides contribute to the preservation of Drass’s pristine environment while promoting local culture and hospitality.
