Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: Events like Apricot Blossom Festival can help Turtuk develop as top tourist destination, says EC LAHDC Leh
Leh, April 12: The Apricot Blossom Festival-Chuli Mentok 2021 organised by the Tourism Department, Ladakh, in collaboration with the Cultural Academy, Ladakh, as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav today started amid much fanfare at Turtuk village of Leh district. The objective of organising the festival is to popularise the apricot blossoming season on the national and international tourist map besides attracting tourists during this time of the year.
Executive Councillor (Minority/Forest), LAHDC Leh, Ghulam Mehdi, was the chief guest for the event, whereas Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Leh, Sonam Chosjor, was the guest of honour. Councillor, Kyungyam, Thinles Nurboo and Assistant Director Tourism, Leh, Jigmet Namgyal, were present during the event.
EC LAHDC Leh, Ghulam Mehdi, appreciated the efforts of the organisers and the UT Administration to promote tourism in the region. Turtuk is known as the largest apricot-producing village in Ladakh. He said such events would help in popularising Turtuk as a tourist destination.
Visitors enjoyed local food during the event. Local products, including handicraft and pottery items, were also put on display for the visitors. There was also a cultural dance and song performance.
The Apricot Blossom Festival would be held in the Turtuk and Tyakshi villages of Nubra sub-division on April 12 and 13, whereas the same event would be organised at Dah and Beema in the Khaltse sub-division on April 17 and 18.
