A special counselling camp was organized by the District Child Protection Office and the De-Addiction Centre under the banner of the YATO Club at Islamia Public School, Leh.

Leh, October 17, 2024: A special counselling camp was organized by the District Child Protection Office and the De-Addiction Centre under the banner of the YATO Club at Islamia Public School, Leh on October 16. The YATO Club, formed in schools, aims to curb the rising problem of substance abuse, particularly among children below the age of 18.
Ms. Fariya Rafiq, Protection Officer (Non-Institutional Care) at the District Child Protection Office, Leh, delivered an inspiring speech, introducing the children to the YATO Club, its purpose, and the significance of its existence in combating substance abuse. She emphasized the collective responsibility in addressing this issue and encouraged children to engage actively with the club.
Mr. Wasim Akram, Project Coordinator at the De-Addiction Centre, Leh, spoke to the children about the services provided by the De-Addiction Centre. He explained how the children and their families could access these services and highlighted the importance of early intervention in substance abuse cases.
The event featured expert counsellors Ms. Rinchen Dolma, Ms. Lobzang Dolma, and Ms. Shahina Fatima from the De-Addiction Centre and District Child Protection Office, Leh. The counsellors introduced themselves to the children and, as per prior instructions to the YATO Club members, addressed anonymous questions collected from the children in a question box.
The half-day session was successful, with the counsellors not only addressing general concerns but also making themselves available for personal consultations with the children after the introductory session. Many children reached out to the counsellors, discussing their personal issues in a safe and confidential environment.
The success of this camp has set the stage for similar sessions to be conducted in other schools under the YATO Club banner, supported by the District Child Protection Office and De-Addiction Centre, Leh
