    Animal Husbandry Department Kargil conducts awareness camp at Hunderman Broq.
    Kargil, Sept 03, 2024: The Animal Husbandry Department, Kargil, organized an awareness camp at Hunderman Broq, the last border village, aimed at educating the local population on various aspects of livestock and poultry management.
    The camp saw active participation from men and women of the village, who attended the event with great curiosity and enthusiasm.
    The event was chaired by Dr. Gulzar Hussain, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Kargil, who reiterated the department’s commitment to improving livestock health and boosting farmers’ incomes through targeted interventions and ongoing support. He emphasized that the department is always available to assist the farming community in enhancing their livestock management practices.
    During the camp, experts from the Animal Husbandry Department shared their knowledge on various critical topics:
    Dr. Ghulam Mohammad, Deputy Director of Farms (DDF) highlighted the importance of backyard poultry development and the potential of poultry farming on a commercial scale. He addressed the common diseases affecting poultry and related issues. He also stressed on the need for clean milking practices and overall livestock health management.
    Dr. Mohammad Ashraf, Manager of the Cattle Breeding Farm Kurbathang provided insights into effective livestock management, focusing on the importance of adopting best practices to ensure the well-being of animals. He discussed key issues pertinent to the local livestock farming community.
    Dr. Dolkar, Disease Investigation Officer, Kargil gave a presentation on the prevalent diseases in Kargil, including zoonotic and metabolic diseases such as Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis. She emphasized the importance of disease prevention and early detection to safeguard both livestock and public health.
    In a gesture of support to the local farmers, Dr. Gulzar Hussain distributed 30 quintals of feed to the drought-affected farmers of the area. Additionally, an on-spot treatment camp was conducted to address immediate livestock health concerns.
    The villagers expressed gratitude to the Animal Husbandry Department for conducting the camp. They acknowledged the department’s efforts in organizing these awareness initiatives, which are crucial for the sustainable development of livestock farming.
    This camp is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to enhance livestock health and productivity, thereby contributing to the overall economic well-being of the farming community in Kargil.
