CEC attends “Ek Pedh Maa Ke Naam” campaign organized by Forest Division Kargil
Kargil, August 03, 2024: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today attended the “Ek Pedh Maa Ke Naam” campaign organized by Forest Division Kargil at Rgyal Khatoon Park Biamathang.
In his address, CEC Dr Jaffer lauded the campaign and its meaningful theme. He emphasized the importance of community participation in such initiatives and suggested planting trees that do not pose health hazards.
He highlighted Juniper as a beneficial option. Dr Jaffer proposed utilizing forest lands for creating public parks, which could also generate income for unemployed youth.
He emphasized the need for sustainable, eco-friendly, people-friendly plants and suggested adopting models like Singapore’s urban planting strategy to enhance public health.
Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Shrikant Suse praised the Forest Division for organizing the campaign and expressed hope for similar initiatives in the future.
He stressed the importance of planting local-specific plants with community involvement for sustainable growth and effective resource management, including the participation of self-help groups and sensible irrigation practices.
Earlier, Divisional Forest Officer, Kargil, Mohd Ali, informed the gathering about the campaign’s ambitious goal to plant 14 crore trees across the country.
He informed that 3,40,700 plants have been planted under Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) and Special Development Plan (SDP).
Director ULB, Ladakh; Chief Engineer I&FC; CMO, Kargil; Chief Animal Husbandry Officer; District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Kargil besides other officers and officials were present on the occasion.
