    CEC attends launch of “Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0” at Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School Baroo.
    Kargil, Sept 24, 2024: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today attended the launch of the “Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0” at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Baroo.
    The event was aimed to promote a tobacco-free lifestyle among the youth of Kargil. Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi; Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Suhail Ahmad; Deputy Chief Medical Officer Kargil, Dr. Fatima Banoo; Block Medical Officer, Dr. Abdul Jaleel; Principal Boys Higher Secondary School; medical staff, school staff, and students were present during the event.
    In his address, Dr Akhoon highlighted the importance of the campaign in addressing various forms of addiction, particularly tobacco use. He emphasized the importance of willpower in overcoming addiction and encouraged students to steer clear of harmful habits like smoking.
    The CEC also spoke about the enhanced facilities in government schools and hospitals in Kargil, comparing them favourably to other states. He mentioned the Boys and Girls Hostels in Jammu and Srinagar that support students from Kargil.
    Dr Akhoon further informed that the Council has requested the Government of India and the CBSE to conduct examinations in November-December as a special case, considering the harsh winter in the region.
    He expressed hope that this proposal would be realised this year or next. He also praised the remedial classes and assured that the Council and UT Administration are working to improve it further. The CEC commended the Health Department for organizing such an event.
    EC Tashi expressed his happiness in being part of the program. He urged everyone to spread awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and lauded the efforts of teachers in shaping the future of students. He also appreciated the Health Department for their initiative in organizing the campaign.
    Additional Deputy Commissioner, Suhail Ahmad also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to make Kargil tobacco-free.
    Dr. Abdul Jaleel gave insights into the campaign, which aims to eliminate tobacco and smoking addiction. He called on the general public and stakeholders to actively spread awareness about the campaign’s objectives.
    Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr. Murtaza Ali, delivered a detailed speech on the health consequences of tobacco use, urging the youth to prioritize their health.
    Students from Boys Higher Secondary School also participated by delivering speeches on various topics related to health and addiction and certificates were distributed among them. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Deputy CMO, Kargil, Dr. Fatima Banoo.
