    CEC praises Indian Army for running schools in Kargil under Sadbhavana Scheme
    Kargil, October 15, 2024: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today attended the renaming of Kaksar Bridge to Capt Amit Bhardwaj Setu who sacrificed his life during the Kargil War.
    Major General K Mahesh, SM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 8 Mountain Division; Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; Councillor Bhimbhat, Abdul Wahid; DSP Kargil Tundup Dorjay, along with other Civil and Military dignitaries were present.
    Addressing the gathering, the CEC said, “I feel proud to be part of this program. There are no words to express my gratitude to the heroes who sacrifice their lives to safeguard our nation and our boundaries.”
    He praised the Indian Army for its dedicated service and lauded its role in running schools in Kargil under the Sadbhavana Scheme, which provides modern education to children in the region. The CEC also acknowledged the Army’s efforts in airlifting Kargil passengers during winter months.
    The CEC concluded by offering prayers for the eternal peace of Capt Amit Bhardwaj and thanked his sister, Sunita Dhonkaria, for attending the ceremony all the way from Jaipur.
    Earlier, Sunita Dhonkaria inaugurated the memorial at the bridge in honor of her brother.
    Pertinently, during the 1999 Kargil War, Capt Amit Bhardwaj of 4 JAT Battalion was deployed in Kaksar, Kargil. Leading a search and rescue patrol, he successfully extricated his platoon from an ambush by infiltrators before making the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
