    CEC Dr Jaffer chairs meeting with Secretary Transport, Ladakh on various issues.
    Kargil, June 28, 2024: Under the chairmanship of CEC, LAHDC, Kargil Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon a meeting was held with Amit Sharma, Secretary of Transport, Rural Development, and IT, UT Ladakh at Council Secretariat Kargil on various issues.
    During the meeting various issues pertaining to Kargil such as representation of Kargil in SIDCO, equal employment opportunities for candidates in contractual positions, extension of e-bus service to Minjee, provision of e-buses and establishment of a charging station at Zanskar, hospital bus access to the main bazaar in Kargil, shortage of drivers in departments and permits for taxi drivers across UT Ladakh, expediting BSNL, Airtel and Jio Network saturation across Ladakh and various other issues.
    Dr. Jaffer demanded compensation under disaster management for drought situations in Soth, Poyen, and Hunderman, and the establishment of a fire station at the subdivision level.
    He inquired about new works under SDP and state sector to which the Secretary instructed that new works should be submitted in consultation with the concerned Councillors within one week.
    The Secretary highlighted the rapid digitalization of Ladakh, mentioning that 193 Gram Panchayats are now connected with video conferencing. He informed that by the end of July, all Block Development Offices will be electrified, and that Common Service Centers (CSCs) are providing all necessary facilities to the last mile. He also assured to redress all small matters in a short spam of time and instructed the concerned departments for necessary action.
    During the meeting, Director of Rural Development Department (RDD), UT Ladakh, Syed Sajjad Qadri presented a presentation on the achievements of various schemes, including NREGA, PMAY, NRLM, IWMP, and Swachh Bharat Mission. The CEC and attendees appreciated the work done under these schemes.
    The meeting concluded with a thorough discussion on issues faced by the Rural Development Department, including the BDO post in the district, DPC at the division level, engagement of mali-cum-chokidars, and human resources in NRLM.
