CEC Feroz Khan attends concluding ceremony of wall painting conservation work at Sang-Sngag Chosling Monastery Bodh Kharboo Announces Rs 7 lakhs for construction of traditional entrance gate
KARGIL, SEPTEMBER 30, 2021; Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan attended the concluding ceremony of wall painting conservation work at Sang-Sngag Chosling Monastary Bodh Kharboo here today.
The wall painting conservation work was initiated by Himalayan Cultural Heritage Foundation (HCHF) in collaboration with Art Conservation Solutions.
Executive Councilor for Tourism and Zanskar Affairs Er Punchok Tashi , Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil Tsering Motup, Nominated Councilor Padma Dorjey, Tehsildar Shakar-Chicktan Kacho Asgar Ali Khan , Founder (HCHF) Dr Sonam Wangchuk, members of Art Conservation Solutions besides large number of locals and artists were present during the concluding ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, CEC Feroz Ahmad Khan hailed the efforts of the members of HCHF and Art Conservation Solutions for the conservation and preservation of paintings in the monasteries. He said such treasures are the mark of identity and culture of the inhabitants of Bodh-Kharboo area which should be preserved and promoted at a larger scale in order to attract tourists from across the globe.
CEC Khan also urged locals to come forward and take moral responsibility to preserve the traditional assets, adding he said that awareness should be done at larger scale to keep traditional assets safe and secure.
Reiterating the commitment of the LAHDC Kargil towards the preservation of the traditional and cultural identities, CEC Khan said that Kargil Development Authority (KDA) especially came into existence in order to carry out necessary development related works in the area of tourism and culture.
CEC Feroz Khan said that the basic agenda of the present LAHDC is the equitable development of all areas of Kargil District and committed efforts are being taken to achieve this goal.
Meanwhile, CEC Feroz Khan announced Rs 7 lakhs for construction of traditional entrance gate at Bodh Kharboo. For further tourism development works in the area , he directed the EC Tourism to keep separate funds in next year budget.
In his address, EC Tourism Er Phunsok Tashi expressed in-depth gratitude to the founder of HCHF Dr Sonam Wangchuk and the members of Art Conservation Solutions for successful completion of the wall painting conservation work in the Gompa. He urged Dr Wangchuk to hold similar resourceful programmes in other parts of Kargil as well and further said that Kargil has a lot of historical assets including Gompas, Masjids, Khankas and other historical places which need immediate pragmatic intervention in order to protect their historical and cultural identity.
EC Tourism stressed locals to be traditional in every sphere of life. Highlighting the unique co-existence of different cultures and faiths in Ladakh and its natural beauty, he said that tourists are more attracted to have a glimpse of our tradition and culture.
Meanwhile, ADC Kargil Tsering Motup appreciated the commendable conservation works being executed by the members of the organization under the guidance of Dr Sonam Wangchuk. He said this contribution will not only revive the cultural history of the area but will also boost economy in future as well.
Earlier, Shri Kumar from Art Conservation Solutions gave a detailed presentation of the preservation works been carried out in the Gompa for last one and a half month.
The programme concluded with presentation of colourful cultural items by the local folk artists.
