CEC Gyalson reviews Covid situation in Leh
Leh, May 15: The Chairman/Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson conducted a review meeting today with the Deputy Commissioner and officers of Leh district to assess the Covid-19 situation in Leh after the imposition of restrictions due to the surge in Covid cases.
He was briefed about the current scenario and the steps taken by the health department in containing Covid positive cases in the district. CMO Leh apprised the Chairman of the status of vaccination drive in Leh with the beginning of inoculation against Covid-19 for the age group (18-44 yrs) in both Leh and Kargil from today. Medical Superintendent, SNM Hospital Leh also informed the meeting that the hospital is starting counseling sessions with a team of Psychologists to the family members of Covid positive patients admitted in ICUs.
CEC Gyalson advised the Health Department to issue necessary press briefing to the general public informing them about the change in guidelines for the vaccination of Covishield vaccine which the Union Health Ministry recently changed its guidelines and extended the gap between the first and second doses of Covishield vaccine to 12-16 weeks.
Briefing on the status of maintaining law and order during the Covid curfew, Additional Superintendent of Police, Leh informed the meeting that the police department is performing full surveillance on the order of the District Administration and taking necessary actions against Covid protocol violators.
The meeting discussed detailed strategies to defeat the deadly virus by enforcing Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB) strictly among the public with the ongoing restrictions along with the timely and effective roll-out of Covid Vaccination for population above 18 years in Leh district. Furthermore, CEC Gyalson advised DC Leh to enforce all measures to suppress community spread of the virus. He further directed all the district officers to strengthen surveillance especially unnecessary movement, except essentials services as notified by the Chairman DDMA, Leh.
CEC Gyalson also appreciated the extraordinary efforts of all the healthcare and frontline workers in containing the spread of Covid-19 in the district. He further stated during the meeting that the healthcare workers, right from Doctors to paramedic staff including those on a contractual basis must be given special incentives as a token of appreciation for their selfless services. He added that he will discuss the same matter with LG Ladakh soon.
CEC Gyalson once again appealed to the people of Leh to strictly follow all the guidelines and SOPs related to Covid-19.
The meeting was attended by DC/CEO LAHDC Leh, Additional Superintendent of Police Leh, Chief Medical Officer Leh, State Surveillance Officer, District Immunization Officer Leh, Head of District Covid Surveillance Team, and Tehsildar Leh.
