Kargil, October 23, 2024: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon on Tuesday attended the grand finale of the Veer Balidani Captain Vikram Batra Memorial Cricket Tournament at Biamathang Playfield.
The tournament was organized by Skarchan Sports Club Latoo in collaboration with the Indian Army. The final match was played between Friends Chiktan and Sheena Kings Eleven Karkit Budgam.
Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Administrative Incharge, Kargil Campus, UoL, Councillor of Chuli-Skambo Constituency, Councillor of Taisuru, Deputy Commander 121 Infantry brigade, officers of Indian Army, other dignitaries and huge number of cricket enthusiast were present.
In his address, Dr. Akhoon congratulated both the organizers and the teams for their efforts in making the tournament a success. He praised the performance of the winner, Friends Chiktan, and the runner-up, Team Budgam and urged the youth to take inspiration from the sportsmanship and dedication displayed on the field. He emphasised the importance of using sports as a tool for personal and physical development.
The CEC hoped to fulfil the long-standing demand of laying artificial grass at the Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium Biamathang Playfield during his tenure.
He reaffirmed LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to support the youth and promote sports as part of a healthy lifestyle. The CEC announced a grant of Rs 3 lakhs from the Untied Fund to Skarchan Sports Club Latoo for purchasing sports equipment.
He also announced Rs 2 lakh each to the winning and runner-up teams for similar purposes. Additionally, Dr. Akhoon shared upcoming winter sports initiatives.
Councillor Taisuru also addressed the gathering and appreciated the efforts of Skarchan Sports Club Latoo for organizing the tournament.
