    Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson visited the Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) plant at Skampari, Leh on 3rd Sept to assess and monitor the operations of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF), accompanied by a team of district officers, including Chairperson, Block Development Council, Leh, Dr. Skalzang Dorjey; Additional District Develop
    ment Commissioner, Leh; Sonam Nurboo; Executive Officer, Municipal Committee Leh; Stanzin Rabgais; Executive Engineer, PWD (Construction Division) and other concerned officials.
    CEC Gyalson interacted with the sanitary workers of the ISWM plant and taking note of their grievances, CEC, instructed EO, MC Leh to undertake necessary actions such as regular health check-ups, health insurance, enhanced remunerations at the earliest and to extend all possible assistance to resolve their issues, considering their hazardous working conditions.
    Executive Officer, MC Leh briefed the functioning of the ISWM plant, where sanitary workers and machines are used to segregate the waste, sort recyclables into different components, and send them outside Ladakh to the designated recycler. He also apprised H’CEC about the decision to augment manpower for effective operations with enhanced remuneration of the workers.
    Afterward, CEC Gyalson and the team also visited the legacy waste site at Bombguard, Leh, to review and inspect the ongoing cleaning process of the dumpsite and the legacy waste.
    The representatives of the agency assigned to clean the legacy waste at Bombguard, Leh, informed that more than 90% of the legacy waste has been cleared and assured to complete the remaining work in the coming 10-12 days.
    CEC Gyalson added that detailed deliberations will be held regarding the effective and sustainable management of the enormous waste generated in the region that peaks during the tourist season and further processing of the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) generated at the waste management plants.
