Leh, Mar. 07, 2024: The Chief Electoral Officer, UT Ladakh, Yetindra M. Maralkar, conducted a comprehensive workshop for Enforcement Agencies in preparation for the upcoming General Elections to Lok Sabha, 2024, focused on Election Expenditure Monitoring (EEM) and various aspects crucial to ensuring fair and transparent General Lok Sabha Elections 2024 at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner Office, Leh,
The workshop commenced with a detailed presentation explaining the structure and functions of Election Expenditure Monitoring, including the roles of its various organs. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Flying Squads, Static Surveillance Teams, ATM Vans, and the checking of helicopters were thoroughly discussed. Additionally, protocols for the seizure and release of cash and other items, monitoring by the Income Tax Department, and the responsibilities of nodal officers across different agencies were highlighted.
The workshop explored several critical areas, including the monitoring of election campaign expenditures, helicopter expenditures, and other travel expenses. Participants were briefed on the thorough accounting of expenditures by candidates and political parties, as well as protocols to prevent the transport of contraband goods and suspicious funds through airports.
CEO Yetindra M. Maralkar highlighted the importance of coordination among enforcement agencies to uphold the integrity of the electoral process. He emphasized the need for vigilance and he urged the officers timely report any illegal activities during the model code of conduct period.
The CEO reiterated the commitment to conduct elections with utmost fairness, transparency, and peace in Ladakh. He emphasized the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process. He expressed confidence in the preparedness of the agencies and their dedication to facilitating smooth and transparent Lok Sabha Elections in UT Ladakh.
The workshop concluded with a call to action for enforcement agencies to remain vigilant and proactive in upholding the purity of the democratic process.
