Leh, April 23, 2025: The Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, today chaired a meeting to review the assessment of damages caused by hailstorm across various regions of UT Ladakh. The meeting was held at the Civil Secretariat Leh.
During the meeting, officials from various departments presented their detailed reports on the extent of damage particularly to Power Development infrastructure, horticulture, road connectivity, irrigation sector etc.
Dr. Kotwal emphasized the importance of prompt and accurate assessments to ensure timely relief. While directing the concerned officials, the Chief Secretary said that set up teams which can assess the damage caused by hailstorm.
He further said that the crop has been damaged in entire UT, instructing both the district magistrates of Leh and Kargil to complete the assessment damage within ten days and take the concerned Chief Executive Councillors on board.
He directed the officials while carrying out assessment of damages, ensure the photographs of damaged infrastructure, so that the compensation will be made as per the norms of disaster management.
Aditionally, he said that compensation will be made once the UT Ladakh administration will assess the actual assessment of damage.
The meeting was attended by the Administrative Secretary Administrative Secretary of Power Development Department of UT Ladakh, Administrative Secretary of Information and Technology Department of UT Ladakh; Administrative Secretary of Agricultural department of UT Ladakh; Administrative Secretary of General Administration Department of UT Ladakh; Commissioner Secretary of Planning Department of UT Ladakh and other concerned officials.
District Magistrate Kargil, Additional District Magistrate Kargil, SDM Sankoo, SDM Zanskar, SDM Chiktan, SDM Drass joined the meeting virtually.
