    Councillor Rong-Churgyud, LBA representatives & members of Stoth Phanday Tsogspa call on Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd)

    Leh, Feb 08, 2025: A delegation from Rong-Churgyud led by Councillor, Kungyam, Thinles Nurboo called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. Advisor to the HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Commissioner/Secretary to the HLG, Dr L Franklin, IAS and Secretary, IT, Shashanka Ala, IAS, were present in the meeting.
    Thinless Nurboo apprised the HLG of the issues faced by the residents of Kungyam due to the frequent disruption of voice calls in the absence of optical fibre cable (OFC) line as the villagers are currently making voice calls and accessing internet through VSAT. He also informed that Kungyam village was provided telecommunication connectivity through the installation of a Jio tower under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) in 2021-22. He requested the HLG’s intervention in connecting the village through a dedicated OFC line for better telecommunication connectivity.
    Highlighting the need for better telecommunication connectivity for the ease and convenience of citizens of Ladakh residing in farthest corners of the region, the HLG stated that he is committed to the welfare of the people of Ladakh and emphasised upgrading 2G network with 4G network. He also asked Secretary, IT, Shashanka Ala, IAS, to ensure the completion of 4G mobile services saturation project in uncovered areas of Ladakh at the earliest.
    A delegation from Ladakh Buddhist Association led by its Vice-President, Kunzes Dolma and General Secretary, LBA Women Wing, Deskit Angmo called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the LG Secretariat. Advisor to the HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Commissioner/Secretary to the HLG, Dr L Franklin, IAS and Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Shashanka Ala, IAS, were present in the meeting.
    Kunzes Dolma expressed gratitude to the HLG and the Government of India for one-third reservation for women in Hill Councils and the initiatives taken by the UT Administration for empowering women.
    There was a discussion on initiatives LBA could take for empowering women in Ladakh, such as the self-help groups (SHGs), the role of women in stopping drug menace and theft cases in society, etc, for the overall development of Ladakh.
    A delegation comprising members of Stoth Phanday Tsogspa led by its President, Rigzin Sangdup, called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the LG Secretariat. Advisor to the HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS and Commissioner/Secretary to the HLG, Dr L Franklin, IAS, were present in the meeting.
    Rigzin Sangdup requested the HLG’s intervention in sanctioning a block headquarter for Stoth; inclusion of Rangdum village in the yet-to-be-formed new Zanskar district; building an ice hockey rink for the youth of Stoth and developing snow ski and winter sports activities in Akshow village, etc.
    The HLG stated that the New District Committee would make recommendations for establishing block headquarters and merging villages in the five newly proposed districts in Ladakh based on their meetings with the representatives of villages in these areas. He also asked the delegates to submit the memorandum to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Zanskar so that the recommendation for their demands could be directed through proper channels for their implementation by the UT Administration.
