DC Kargil chairs meeting to form district animal welfare society.
Kargil, July 15, 2025 – Deputy Commissioner and CEO of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS), chaired a meeting on Tuesday to facilitate the formation of the District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The meeting took place at the DC’s office chamber and was attended by key officials, including Senior Superintendent of Police Shri Ram R., Divisional Forest Officer Shakeel Ahmad, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Dr. Gulzar Hussain, Wildlife Warden Raza Ali Abidi, and representatives from the Municipal Committee Kargil and the Rural Development Department.
A major topic of discussion was the growing menace of stray dogs in the Kargil district. Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Dr. Gulzar informed the gathering that the department has sterilised approximately 8,000 stray dogs to date and continues to actively address the issue.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to expedite both the registration of the new committee and the implementation of on-ground activities. He also called for intensified sterilisation drives and close monitoring of any incidents involving cruelty to animals.
