Delegation comprising Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers from different blocks calls on Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd).

Leh, Feb 07, 2025: A delegation comprising Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers representing Nyoma, Durbuk, Khaltsi and Nubra blocks led by Tsering Dolker called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. Advisor to the HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Commissioner/Secretary to the HLG, Dr L Franklin, IAS and Secretary, School Education, Bhanu Prabha, IAS, were present in the meeting.
Tsering Dolker-led delegation informed the HLG that they have been working as ReT teachers at the same school in different villages for more than two decades. They shared the ordeals faced by them in the absence of a transfer policy for ReTs despite them becoming regularised teachers on the lines of general line teachers after completing five years of service as ReT teachers. They also informed the HLG of the decision taken by the cabinet and the erstwhile state of J&K that ‘the service of ReT teachers shall be transferable after regularisation within the district to which they belong.’
The delegates alleged that these orders have not been implemented and ReT teachers are still teaching at the same places despite their regularisation several years ago. They requested the HLG’s intervention for their transfer to other areas on the lines of general line teachers so that they get more exposure and experience.
Advisor to the HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS, informed the HLG that ReT teachers are supernumerary posts and that the merger of ReT teachers with general line teachers could have a cascading effect, particularly in recruiting fresh teachers.
The HLG asked Secretary, School Education, Bhanu Prabha, IAS, to check with the J&K counterparts about steps taken by them for ReT teachers, including the transfer and promotion of ReTs. He stated that the UT Administration will follow the norms adopted by the J&K counterparts for ReT teachers.
