Delegation from Ulma Council Drass calls on Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd)
Leh, Feb 14, 2024: A delegation comprising members of Ulma Council Drass led by Shri Altaf Hussain called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat.
Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Ladakh, Dr Vasanthakumar N, IAS; Secretary to HLG, Shri Ravinder Kumar, IAS; Director, Health Services, Ladakh, Dr Motup Dorje and Deputy Secretary, School Education, Ladakh, Smt Sumaira Shafi, JKAS, were present in the meeting.
Shri Altaf Hussain raised several demands, viz. provision of funds for the construction of Madrasa School building, establishment of Madrasa Board in UT Ladakh, allocation of land for the construction of Madrasa school for orphan boys, filling up of vacant posts of Arabic teachers, providing training and equipment to Ulma Council volunteers to carry out rescue operations, construction of Drass House in Leh, establishment of fire services station in Drass, filling up of vacant posts of doctors at Sub-District Hospital at Drass, making Trauma Unit in Drass fully functional, filling up of the vacant posts of Shina language editors at the Cultural Academy in Kargil, introduction of books in Shina language in primary and elementary schools, the establishment of Polytechnic College and ITI in Drass, inclusion of local religious holidays of Ahle Sunat Wal Jamait in UT calendar and the establishment of library under Ulma Council at Drass.
Commissioner/ Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Ladakh, Dr Vasanthakumar N, IAS, informed the HLG that the Trauma Unit at Drass would be made functional soon with the selection of five specialist doctors for which interview of candidates have already been completed.
Deputy Secretary, School Education, Department, Ladakh, Smt Sumaira Shafi informed the HLG that three languages, viz. Hindi, Urdu and Bhoti were introduced in the schools of UT Ladakh as per the CBSE curriculum.
The HLG informed Shri Altaf Hussain to submit a proposal for the construction of Madrassa school building and allocation of land for the construction of Madrassa school building for boys to the LAHDC Kargil. He also informed that 12 firefighting vehicles have been purchased by the UT Administration to tackle fire incidents in Ladakh. The HLG directed the Deputy Secretary, School Education Department, Ladakh to look into the issue of filling up vacant posts of Arabic teachers and also directed her to examine the matter related to the construction of the Library at Drass under Ulma Council. He also directed Commissioner/ Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Ladakh to fill the vacant posts of doctors at Sub-District Hospital at Drass and ensure to function of the Trauma Unit as soon as possible.
The HLG directed the Secretary to HLG, Shri Ravinder Kumar, IAS, to ask Deputy Commissioner Kargil to provide training and equipment for the volunteers of Ulma Council Drass to take up rescue operations. He also directed the concerned department to start the vocational/ skill courses in the colleges and schools in Ladakh.
