Delegation of table tennis players from Kargil calls on Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd)

Leh, 06 February 2025: A delegation comprising table tennis players from Kargil led by Nasreen Fatima, President of the TT Association, Kargil, called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the increasing popularity of table tennis among the youth in Kargil district. They attributed this growth to the efforts of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, which has provided basic facilities such as table tennis boards in various schools across the district. The delegation also informed the HLG that several young players from Kargil have represented Ladakh in various national-level table tennis championships, bringing laurels to the region through their outstanding performances.
The delegation presented a memorandum outlining their demands, which included appointment of a professional table tennis coach and provision of essential equipment such as table tennis racquets, TT balls, light sneakers, wrist/headbands, T-shirts, pants, sports skirts, and tracksuits to facilitate better practice sessions. The delegation also requested Table Tennis Court/Hall with all basic facilities, including table tennis boards, lockers, and support staff.
In response, the HLG instructed OSD to Secretary of Youth Service and Sports to train Physical Education Teachers/Rehbar-e-Khel teachers of the YSS Department in different sports disciplines. The HLG also instructed him to form Sports Associations/Federations of different games and sports for the better promotion of games and sports in Ladakh.
Advisor to the HLG, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Commissioner/Secretary to HLG, Dr. L Franklin, IAS and OSD to Secretary, Youth Service and Sports, Mohd Ali Tak were present during the meeting.
