Delegations from Bodh Kharbu & Mann-Pangong, Phobrang call on the Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd).
Leh, Aug 30, 2023: A delegation from Bodh Kharbu led by Nominated Councillor, Shri Padma Dorjey and President, Drikyug Kagyud Sang Nag Chosling, Ven Konchok Nurboo, called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas.
Shri Padma informed the HLG that the old Yoga Centre at Bodh Kharbu is in a dilapidated condition without any amenities. He also informed about the popularity of yoga/meditation among the masses and the need to redevelop the Yoga Centre. He further informed about the detailed project report (DPR) prepared by Kargil Development Report and requested the HLG to sanction the project to enable the execution of work at the earliest.
Shri Padma apprised the HLG of the approval given by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to visit Bodh Kharbu in 2025 and the preparations being made by the concerned people for the same. He informed the HLG of the need for the renovation/restoration and development of land at the Monastery/Photang in Bodh Kharbu. He requested for financial assistance for the same.
The delegates requested the HLG for financial assistance for the repairing/restoration of Kundik Monastery due to its religious significance in the area. They also requested for the relocation of the GREF unit from the existing place at Bodh Kharbu to some other place to carry out some developmental activities and to carry out some expansion work. They proposed the HLG to provide an alternate land for the establishment of the GREF unit.
The HLG assured to look into the issue of reconstruction of the Yoga Centre. He assured to look for central government scheme aimed at cultural revival so that adequate funds could be provided through the scheme for the renovation/reconstruction of religious places. The HLG stated that the Army/BRO/GREF units on detachment have been allotted specific tasks to be carried out in a specific region. He also stated that the Ministry of Defence will have a final say in the relocation of these units.
A delegation from Mann-Pangong and Phobrang led by Shri Rigzin Motup called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas.
Shri Rigzin apprised the HLG of the issue faced by the villagers engaged in tourism activities, who are running their businesses on the land allotted at Lukung near Pangong Lake, as their structures were demolished by the Administration in 2019 in an anti-encroachment drive citing their proximity to the Lake when Ladakh was still a part of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. He informed that the 200 plots of land identified by the Administration at Spangmik and Lukung for the people of Maan, Merak, Yourgo, Lukung and Phobrang villages to set up their business infrastructure is very close to the Lake along with the Shopping Complex which has been constructed adjacent to their properties which were demolished in the anti-encroachment drive. He also apprised the HLG of the question raised by them against the government officials for their decision to allow the construction of tourism business infrastructure near the Pangong Lake but to no avail.
Shri Rigzin informed that the villagers of Spangmik have reconstructed the demolished structures and are operating their businesses. He apprised the HLG of the judgment passed by the District and Sessions Court, Leh against the case filed by the Department of Wildlife, Leh for the removal of their structures. He requested the HLG to resolve the issue and allow them to reconstruct structures on the allotted land.
The HLG asked Shri Rigzin Motup to meet Deputy Commissioner, Leh so that he could take examine their case and take necessary actions.
