    Delegations from ex-Servicemen & Sham Valley Apricot Producer Cooperative Limited call on Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd).
    Leh, July 15, 2024: A delegation comprising Ex-Servicemen led by Honorary Captain, Shri Sonam Morup called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. Commissioner/ Secretary to the HLG, Shri L Franklin, IAS; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Leh, Shri Shabir Hussain, JKAS and Director of the Sainik Welfare Department, Col Lobzang Neema, were present in the meeting.
    Shri Morup informed the HLG that about 300 kanal of land was allotted for the veer naris (war widows) and war heroes at Ibex Colony in Leh. He informed the HLG that 70 kanals of land are still remaining and requested the HLG to allocate the land for the war heroes with Sena Medal.
    The HLG asked ACR Leh to provide a detailed report of the land allocated to veer naris and ex-servicemen so that he could properly study the matter.
    President of Sham Valley Apricot Producer Cooperative Limited, Shri Tsewang Dorjey along with Marketing and Communication Officer, Tata Trust, Shri Tsewang Nurboo called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. Commissioner Secretary to the HLG, Shri L Franklin, IAS, was present in the meeting.
    Shri Nurboo apprised the HLG of the work being done by Tata Trust in apricot production in Sham valley in Leh district. He informed that a Farmers Producers Organisation (FPO) has been formed comprising 8 villages of the lower part of Sham Valley. He also informed that they export fresh apricots to the domestic market. He requested the HLG to provide the land at the Industrial Estate to establlish the apricot processing unit.
    Shri Nurboo informed that Tata Trust has manufactured a solar dryer machine and distributed around 70 units in the villages of the Sham area. He requested the HLG’s intervention to extend more units in the villages of the Sham area. He further informed that the company provides 70% subsidy on the solar dryer plants to the beneficiaries. He also requested the HLG to conduct an exposure tour to Iran and Turkey for the members of FPO to gain expertise in post-harvesting techniques.
    The HLG stated that the apricot solar dryer machine should be provided on the community level to the villages in Sham region. He asked Shri Nurboo to meet the Advisor to the HLG and discuss the provisions about providing solar dryer machines on a community level. He also asked Shri Nurboo to take some rooms on rent in an area near the village which is easily accessible by apricot growers. He also asked Shri Nurboo to get literature on post-harvesting techniques and study them for the benefit of apricot growers.
