    Dy Chairman reviews Livelihood Initiative project of Tata Trust in Leh

    Leh, Sep 13: The Deputy Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk convened a meeting with the Councillors of Nubra region and officials of Tata Trust, Leh at the Council Secretariat, Leh today.
    Sr. Project Officer, Tata Trust, Samten Choephel gave a detailed presentation on the Leh Livelihood Initiative, a project of Tata Trust which aims to improve the quality of life of around 5000 families from 50 villages in Ladakh through sustainable livelihoods.
    He highlighted the vision of the project to improve large scale production and providing a good market for apricot, woollen handicraft and vegetables from Ladakh. He also informed the meeting of their plans for the proposed project in the Nubra region looking at the potential of having a good market for various homegrown products in the region.
    The Councillors and officials had detailed deliberations and discussed several measures and challenges for the implementation of the said project.
    Dy Chairman Angchuk pointed out few concerns in front of the meeting and seeks intervention from the concerned officials to review the plans before implementation keeping in view the past experiences of agricultural and horticultural production growth in the region.
    Executive Councillor for Horticulture, Ghulam Mehdi Ashoor, Councillor Panamik, Tsering Sangdup, Councillor Tegar, Rigzin Lundup, Councillor Hunder, Kunzang Lotus, Sr. Project Officer, Tata Trust, Samten Choephel and Project Officer, Tata Trust, Stenzin Lakdan attended the meeting.
