EC Tashi calls on CE Project Yojak Jarinder Parsad at Manali over progress, work program of Nimmu–Padum–Darcha road.

Kargil, June 12, 2023:
Executive Councilor Tourism, RD and Zanskar Affairs, LAHDC, Kargil Er Punchok Tashi today called on Chief Engineer Project Yojak Jarinder Parsad at their HQ Office Manali, Himachal Pradesh and had a detailed discussion about the present status of Shingkunla as well as overall progress and work program for 2023 of Nimmu–Padum–Darcha road.
The NPD road was shifted last year from Project Vijayak HQ at Kargil to Project YOJAK based at Manali and since then, the progress has been achieved manifold.
Due to frequent rain/snowfall and cloudy weather, the road from Manali to Padum got disrupted many times causing inconvenience to commuters including tourists and locals.
The visit was particularly aimed to see how to improve the road conditions over Shingkunla so that both sides traffic could be ensured as several delegates of travel fraternity have expressed concern over the cancellation of tour program and also students missed their exams.
EC Tashi requested the Chief Engineer Project Yojak to setup a special workforce, particularly at Shingkunla so as to widen the avalanche portion and improve the surface of the road.
The Chief Engineer brief about the work program and ensured that they will put all effort to compete the blacktopping of the already widened portion from Padum to Shingkunla and also shall try to complete the connectivity between Neraq to Chilling on NPD road. The mobilization status of the proposed Shingkunla tunnel was also been discussed.
On behalf of people of Zanskar, the EC appreciated the workforce of Project YOJAK for expediting the road construction after taking over the charge.
