Ex-Servicemen Union Turtuk members call on Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd)
Leh, Feb 16, 2024: A delegation comprising members of Ex-Servicemen Union Turtuk led by its President, Shri Ghulam Abbas, called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. Commissioner/Secretary, Shri Kacho Mehboob Ali Khan, IRS; Secretary to HLG, Shri Ravinder Kumar, IAS; Secretary, Shri Michael D’Souza, IAS and Director, Health Services, Dr Motup Dorje, were in the meeting.
Shri Abbas apprised the HLG of the work on the Turtuk-Hanu Road being carried out by the Border Roads Organisation and requested early road completion. He raised several other issues, viz. sanctioning of sub-division status to Turtuk area; upgradation of Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Turtuk to Community Health Centre (CHC) due to the long distance between Turtuk and Disket; upgradation of Medical Aid Centre, Tyakshi to New Type Primary Health Centre (NT-PHC); the enhancement of rates of ponies being engaged by the Indian Army at forward posts of Turtuk and putting a check on the engagement of migrant labourers over locals, etc.
The HLG instructed the Secretary, PWD, to ensure proper planning and keep the budget and duration of time in mind while carrying out project works. He also instructed the Director of Health Services to ensure the visit of a paediatrician and gynaecologist from CHC Disket to PHC Turtuk and doctors to MAC Tyakshi. The HLG stated that local labourers should be given preference over migrant labourers subject to their physical fitness, age and requirements of male/female labourers. He also instructed the Commissioner/Secretary of Labour to meet Army officials and suggest periodic reviews of rates of ponies being engaged by them.
