GDC Drass organizes seminar on menstrual health, hygiene.
Kargil, October 08, 2024: The Department of English and Sociology, GDC Drass under the supervision of Principal Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi, today organized a seminar on Menstrual Health and Hygiene in the college Seminar Hall.
The event was held to focus on the challenges that affect the health and hygiene of girl students and to combat stigmas and persisting taboos regarding periods. The programme began with an overview on menstrual health by educating girls about menstruation by Assistant Professor, Archo Fatima Nissa.
A group discussion among the students was held to understand the nuances and core issues faced by girl students in their day to day lives. This exercise was beneficial to identify individual concerns encountered by students during their periods.
Dr. Samina Rahman, Asstt. Prof. Sociology demonstrated the body mechanism of women during periods. She emphasized the significance of understanding our bodies to manage menstrual health, period pain, and period mess.
Students were also taught to register in period tracking apps to monitor monthly periods to understand their menstrual cycle, predict symptoms, and for body awareness.
Parveen Fatima, Asstt. Prof. English also spoke on the occasion. She highlighted ways to maintain menstrual hygiene and sanitation. She also highlighted eco-friendly options such as use of menstrual cups and reusable sanitary pads for safe periods. She advised students to know about menstrual health.
The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Samina Rehman. Around 60 students participated in the programme.
