    GDC Kargil organizes 2-day lecture on pH analysis of commonly used products

    Kargil April 12, 2023: Department of Chemistry, GDC Kargil organized a two-day activity-cum-lecture session on pH analysis of commonly used products like soap, toothpaste, shampoo etc.
    During the first day of the activity, participants were introduced to the basics of pH and its importance in product development and effectiveness along with the adverse effects of these products on both humans and the environment.
    Sajjad Hussain, HoD Chemistry demonstrated the process of pH analysis using pH meters or pH strips and showed how to interpret the results.
    Participants were also provided samples of various products, such as different brands of soap, toothpaste and shampoo to test and compare their pH values.
    On the second day of the program, participants detailed about the chemistry behind the products and how pH affects their performance.
    Dr Lobzang Tashi and Sadiq Lone conducted a demonstration to showcase how pH affects different properties of products such as their cleaning power, foam stability and skin/hair compatibility.
    The participants were also encouraged to share their own experiences and observations on the products they tested on the first day.
    Throughout the two-day activity, the Chemistry Department provided background information on the chemical composition and manufacturing processes of the products being analyzed as well as any relevant health or environmental concerns.
    The activity was also structured to allow for group work and discussion, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
    The two-day activity on pH analysis of commonly used products concluded successfully today under the guidance of HoD Chemistry, Sajjad Hussain, Dr Lobzang Tashi and Sadiq lone.
    Ghulam Mehdi and Manzoor Hussain students of 6th Semester, Department of Chemistry, were awarded for their participation during the two-day event.
    In the end, HoD Chemistry thanked the chief patron Dr Amina Qari, Principal GDC Kargil, for her support and guidance in conducting such programs in the college.
