GDC Kargil students visit ICDS Center Chanchik, UoL, Kargil Campus as part of educational tour.
Kargil, Sept 30, 2024: The students of Department of Education, GDC Kargil from 3rd and 5th Semester embarked on an educational tour that included visits to two key institutions in Kargil: the ICDS Centre Chanchik and University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus.
The tour was aimed to provide students practical exposure to early childhood care and education systems as well as insights into higher education and the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020.
The tour began with a visit to the ICDS Centre in Chanchik. The students were warmly welcomed by the Centre’s Supervisor, Archo Nargis, and the Director, Tahira.
The Director provided a comprehensive overview of the critical components of the ICDS program, explaining its structure and objectives.
Archo Nargis, the Supervisor, delivered an in-depth presentation on the need and importance of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and the vital role of the ICDS in addressing these needs. She explained the program’s objectives, which focus on providing health, nutrition, and early education to young children.
To enhance understanding, practical demonstrations of various ICDS components were given, allowing students to observe activities such as nutritional services, preschool education, and health check-ups.
The students showed great interest and attentively observed every activity, gaining first-hand experience in how ECCE is implemented at the grassroots level.
At the end of the session, Kaneez Fatima (HOD) Department of Education, GDC Kargil, expressed her gratitude to the staff of the ICDS Centre for their warm hospitality and insightful presentations.
In the second half of the tour, the students visited University of Ladakh, Kargil Campus. They were welcomed by Director of the Department of Education, Anwar Hussain, along with other faculty members. The warm reception created a friendly atmosphere for learning and interaction.
The highlight of the visit was a brief yet impactful lecture delivered by Dr. Asim Mustafa. His lecture focused on the need and importance of higher education and the role of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in shaping student behavior and future educational goals.
Dr. Mustafa emphasized how higher education contributes to personal growth, social development, and career opportunities. He also shed light on the NEP 2020’s vision to transform India’s education system to be more inclusive, equitable, and flexible.
Following the lecture, the students interacted with postgraduate students from the Department of Education. This exchange of experiences provided valuable insights into the life and aspirations of higher education students, fostering mutual learning.
The tour concluded with the students visiting other departments and the campus library, where they observed academic resources and infrastructure first hand. The visit ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Barkat Hussain Para, Assistant Professor, who expressed appreciation for the collaborative spirit and hospitality of the university staff.
The educational tour was a highly enriching experience for the students of GDC Kargil. It offered them practical insights into early childhood care systems and a broader understanding of the value of higher education.
The exposure to both ECCE and NEP 2020 has undoubtedly enhanced the students’ perspectives on education and its role in personal and societal development.
