Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) chairs meeting to discuss new training module for Handicraft & Handloom Dept, contractual lecturers call on HLG to discuss salary enhancement issue.

Leh, 25 February 2025: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), chaired a meeting at the LG Secretariat to discuss the New Training Module of the Handicraft and Handloom Department. This module aims to benefit craftsmen, artisans, and new entrants in the field.
During the meeting, the HLG emphasized the importance of maintaining high training standards while ensuring that individuals who have already completed the training are not subject to repetition. He also stressed the necessity of conducting both outcome and impact assessments of the training programmes to measure their effectiveness. Furthermore, he advocated for the implementation of the “One District One Product” initiative.
The HLG highlighted the need to assess the employability and earning capacity of those who undergo or have undergone the training, urging efforts towards promoting ‘Lakhpati Didi’ through these initiatives. He also emphasized the importance of ensuring that products are marketable and connected to the “Brand Ladakh,” while maintaining high standards.
During the discussion, Nodal Officers raised concerns about the short duration of the Elementary Training Module and requested rationalization of the duration based on different trades. In response, Principal Secretary Shri Sanjeev Khirwar, IAS, assured that the duration would be reevaluated in collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).

In another meeting, a delegation of contractual lecturers called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat. The delegation sought the Lt Governor’s intervention in the enhancement of their salaries.
The lecturers highlighted that they have been working with the Education Department on a monthly salary of ₹30,000, which, according to them, needs to be enhanced. Administrative Secretary Education, Ms. Bhanu Prabha, IAS, stated that a proposal in this regard has been sent to the Finance Department.
The HLG affirmed that due consideration should be given to the lecturers and emphasized the importance of adhering to standards and rules as laid down by the Government of India in the process of salary enhancement.
