Hon’ble Lt Governor, Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) holds meeting to discuss handing of assets of SKUAST.
Leh, Sep 01, 2023: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) held a meeting to discuss the handing of assets of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) at Raj Niwas.
After threadbare discussions, the HLG decided that the full-fledged Agriculture Department would be established under University of Ladakh in affiliation of SKUAST Kashmir. The HLG also decided that the various SKUAST units in Ladakh would be transferred to Agriculture Department of the University of Ladakh. The HLG directed to Vice Chancelor, University of Ladakh, Prof SK Mehta to expedite the process of creating the Agriculture Department.
Executive Councilor, Agriculture, Shri Stanzin Chosphel apprised the HLG about the process of handing of the SKUAST in Leh and Kargil. He informed that the handing issue was also discussed at both Hill Councils and instructed the authorities to hold the process.
Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, Ladakh, Smt Padma Angmo suggested that SKUAST should handover the assets as well as the posts to the administration of Ladakh.
Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Kasmir Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai informed the HLG about the university and its existence in Ladakh. He Informed that two research institute, two Krishi Vigyan Kendras and six SKUAST units were established in Ladakh during erstwhile state of Jammu and Kasmir. Prof Gania further informed that 45 non-technical posts are lying vacant in six units of the university and reserved for the residents of Ladakh.
The assets of SKUAST-Kashmir will be taken over by the Agriculture Department of the Ladakh University when it becomes fully functional.
