    Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra Retd) holds meeting with Dept Secretaries/HODs to review progress of works, pending works and issues faced by their respective depts.

    Leh, Sept 18, 2023: The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) held a meeting with the Departmental Secretaries and Head of Departments at Raj Niwas to review the progress of works along with pending works and faced issued by their respective departments.
    The HLG discussed several issues with the Departmental Secretaries and HODs, viz. the issues faced by Ladakhi students in availing Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS); the extension of Rewa: Lt Governor’s Student Support Initiative (Financial Assistance to meritorious students of UT of Ladakh) to meritorious students of Ladakh to avail coaching facilities for various competitive examinations; the feasibility of engagement of teachers for specially-abled students for their academic benefit; rationalisation of teachers/closure of government schools with zero enrolments of students; the need to take stringent action against government officials found engaged in canvassing; the need to conduct a study on the melting of glaciers in the trans-Himalayan region; the alleged corrupt practices adopted in the construction of the Himiling road; the number of recruitment rules (RR) submitted to UPSC for gazetted posts; the swearing-in ceremony of the Election Commissioner; the update on the Medical College, Engineering College, Sindhu Central University, Government Degree College at Sankoo and the demand for construction of Government Degree College at Turtuk/Bogdang; the progress on the rationalisation of boundaries of Karakoram/Changthang Wildlife Sanctuaries; the promotion of sea buckthorn for the economic welfare of the people engaged in food processing industry; the need to restrict the movement of bakarwals for grazing purposes in Kargil district; the clearance of garbage from tourist areas; the ongoing preparation for sending troupes from Ladakh to different states/UTs for the celebration of Ladakh Foundation Day; the pashmina kid pen prototype; the sterilisation of dogs; the saturation of BSNL’s 4G connectivity to uncovered areas of Ladakh under USOF; the establishment of circuit bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir & Ladakh; the progress of saturation of Jal Jeevan Mission in Ladakh; steps being taken to protect eggs of Black-Necked Cranes in Ladakh; the increase in number of beggars in Ladakh; the issue f encroachment of land in Ladakh; the declaration of SSC Selection Post Ladakh 2022 at the earliest after Supreme Court’s verdict and the filling up of 432 posts of constables in Ladakh Police, etc.
    The HLG instructed the Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, to provide scholarships to deserving students from Ladakh and provide all possible assistance to them in availing of their scholarships. He also instructed that malpractices should be curbed and necessary action must be taken against defaulters to conduct the LAHDC Kargil elections fairly, freely and transparently. He further instructed the concerned officials to sensitise the public about the specifications of the thickness adopted in the construction of national highways and internal roads.
    The HLG spoke to the Director of Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and asked him to expedite the process of rationalisation of boundaries of wildlife sanctuaries of Ladakh while keeping the individual welfare of the public as the focal point. He highlighted the need to encourage local youth to become entrepreneurs/goat herders by making this area lucrative for them. He suggested that dogs of the same gender should be neutered to control the population of stray dogs along with exploring the possibility of putting collars across the necks of the sterilised dogs. The HLG instructed the BSNL officials to take concrete steps to ensure the saturation of 4G connectivity in uncovered areas of Ladakh.
