    Horticulture Department, Leh, Organized Exposure Tour for Farmers of Thiksery, Stakna and nearby villages.

    Leh, March 20, 2025: As part of its ongoing efforts to promote modern horticulture practices, the Horticulture Department, Leh, organized a one-day exposure tour for a group of approximately 100 farmers from Thiksey, Stakna and nearby villages. The tour was flagged off by Hon’ble Executive Councilor Horticulture Shri. Ghulam Mehdi and Councilor Thiksey Constituency Mr. Stanzin Chosphel in the presence of Chief Horticulture Officer, Smt. Kunzang Wangmo and Horticulture Dev. Officer, Leh Dr. Sonam Dawa.
    The tour commenced from the Council Office, Leh, and took the farmers to the Model Orchard cum Nursery Saspol (MOCN) where they observed the cultivation of different kinds of fruits such as apricot, apple, GI-tagged Apricot Raktsey Karpo and strawberry farming in greenhouses. On their way back, the farmers visited the Centre of Excellence for Seabuckthorn in Nimmo, where they have seen the scientific cultivation of Seabuckthorn and later visited Fruit Processing Unit in Nimmo, accompanied by Incharge Nursery, Dr. Stanzin Angmo, where they gained insights into fruit processing and value-added products.
    At the end of the tour, the participating farmers expressed their gratitude to Chief Horticulture Officer Smt. Kunzang Wangmo and the department’s staff for organizing the trip and making all necessary arrangements for a smooth and informative experience. The initiative aims to enhance the knowledge of local farmers and encourage the adoption of improved horticultural practices for better productivity and economic growth.
