    MP Ladakh calls on Hon’ble Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd).
    Leh, June 22, 2024: Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Shri Mohmad Haneefa, called on the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat.
    Advisor to the HLG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS; Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education, Smt Padma Angmo, IIS; Secretary, Tourism, Shri Vikram Singh Malik, IAS and Secretary, PWD, Shri Michael D’ Souza, IAS, were present in the meeting.
    MP Ladakh Shri Haneefa expressed his gratitude to the HLG for the smooth conduct of the Lok Sabha election for the Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency. He informed the HLG that the long-pending demand of the Buddhist community has been fulfilled as land has been provided for the construction of Gonpa at Khurbathang in Kargil. He thanked the HLG, UT Administration and LAHDC Kargil for providing land at Khurbathang.
    Stating that Ladakh is known for communal harmony, Shri Haneefa said that providing land for the Buddhist Gonpa at Kargil is one of the examples of communal harmony in its true sense.
    Shri Haneefa requested the HLG’s intervention to retain the temporary campus of Sankoo College and the establishment of a full-fledged Degree College in Sankoo. He informed the HLG that Sankoo sub-division is the most populated in Kargil and students enrolled in GDC Sankoo are mostly from remote areas.
    Shri Haneefa also highlighted the need for rationalisation in relaxation of ST category posts for the filling up of gazetted posts in University of Ladakh. He informed the issue faced by commuters due to lack of proper management of traffic at Zojila. He requested the HLG to take up the matter with the J&K Government to ensure smooth traffic at Zojila. Shri Haneefa also requested the HLG to ensure the availability of Directors posted at Kargil. He also requested the HLG to visit Kargil twice a year along with the Departmental Secretaries.
    MP Ladakh also informed that the teachers engaged under the Samagra Shiksha scheme have not been paid their salaries for the last few months. He further informed the HLG about the issue faced by the public due to the non- availability of sand and gravel for construction purposes. Shri Hanifa requested the HLG that the Administration should formulate a policy to regulate the mining issues and give preference to locals while granting contracts.
    Shri Haneefa requested the HLG’s intervention in making Kargil Airport operational. He informed about the DPR submitted for water supply scheme project for Kargil town which has submitted to the UT Administration and requested the HLG for the approval of the project. He informed the HLG that LAHDC Kargil has submitted the draft recruitment rule of employees working at LAHDC Kargil and requested the HLG to approve the draft. Shri Haneefa requested the HLG to give age relaxation to candidates applying for gazetted posts.
    The HLG stated that the issue of Kargil Airport has been taken up with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. The HLG directed Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education, Smt Padma Angmo to take up a case with the Union Government and maintain status quo of GDC Kargil campus at Sankoo to ensure that students do not suffer. He assured Shri Haneefa that UT administration would try for the college campus in Sankoo to continue to function.
    The HLG stated that the water supply scheme of both Leh and Kargil districts should be sent to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for approval. He directed Advisor to the HLG to ensure the availability of Directors posted in Kargil. The HLG instructed Principal Secretary, School Education, Ladakh to release the salaries of teachers engaged under the Samagra Shiksha scheme at the earliest.
    The HLG assured Shri Haneefa that the issues flagged by him would be addressed in a time-frame manner. He asked Shri Haneefa to draft a letter on the traffic management issue at Zojila so that he could take up the matter with the Jammu and Kashmir Government.
    The HLG stated that a committee would be set up to examine the age relaxation for the candidates during the recruitment for gazetted posts considering the delay in the recruitment for gazetted posts.
