New Districts Committee Meets with Leaders and Residents of Nubra Valley. Diskit, November 8, 2024: The New Districts Committee, headed by Sh. Pramod Kumar Jain, IAS (Retd.), began its three-day tour to the picturesque Nubra Valley with a meeting at Diskit sub-divisional headquarters today. Local leaders and opinion makers including Councillors, Lambardars, and community elders gathered to share their perspectives on operationalising the new district of Nubra in Ladakh. Heads of religious bodies were also present. The Committee includes members Sh. Kacho Asfandyar Khan, IAS (Retd.), Sh. Tsering Angchok, IAS (Retd.), Deputy Commissioner Leh Santosh Sukhadeve (ex-officio), and Deputy Commissioner Kargil Shrikant Balasaheb Suse (ex-officio).
Deputy Commissioner Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, emphasized the Committee’s commitment to fair, objective and progressive decisions addressing the remote region’s needs. He encouraged attendees to keep their feedback concise to ensure a clear understanding of local issues.
Chairman Sh. Pramod Kumar Jain assured the community of a thorough and sympathetic view of their administrative demands, memoranda and feedback.
Deputy Chairman LAHDC, Leh, Shri Tsering Angchuk highlighted key issues including: Wildlife concerns, a proposal for three new sub-divisions in Nubra to serve the region’s population better. A recommendation for prioritizing Nubra residents in new district cadre posts to support local employment, etc. Angchuk also advocated for Diskit as the ideal location for the district headquarters, citing its central location, availablility of land and infrastructure, and connectivity within the Nubra area. A memorandum backing these points, signed by five Councillors and local Lambardars, is being submitted to the Committee.
Additional feedback from community members was presented, with the Committee ensuring positive consideration. The Chairman expressed gratitude for their warm welcome and reaffirmed commitment to addressing the Nubra Valley’s needs and public aspirations in the report.
