Kargil, November 11, 2024: On the second consecutive day, Observer for 1-Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency, Padma Angmo on Saturday (November 09) visited various polling stations in Kargil to review Special Summary Revision (SSR) of Electoral Roll with reference to January 1, 2025 as the qualifying date.
Following her tour, she held a meeting at TFC Kargil with election officers, officials and representatives from various political parties.
Her visit was aimed to monitor and evaluate implementation of the ongoing SSR program, essential for ensuring accurate and up-to-date voter list in preparation for future elections.
During her visit, Padma Angmo inspected several polling stations, including PS Tambis, PS GM Pore, PS Farona, PS Saliskote, and PS Trespone in Kargil, among others.
Accompanied by the election team, she conducted thorough inspections at each station to oversee operations and assess voter awareness, as well as the availability of accessible facilities for senior citizens and people with disabilities
Padma Angmo also engaged with Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who are responsible for managing electoral roll data at the grassroots level.
Through these interactions, she reviewed the progress made by BLOs in their roles, offered guidance, and addressed challenges they face in updating voter details.
The BLOs shared insights on the local population’s electoral participation and highlighted the specific challenges in voter registration and outreach.
A significant focus of Padma Angmo’s visit was her interaction with students, potential future voters, general public, and representatives of local communities. It aimed to promote electoral literacy and encourage active participation in the democratic process.
After visiting various polling stations in the district, the Observer held a review meeting with Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, SVEEP Nodal Officers, the district presidents of AAP, BJP, INC, and JKNC, as well as the Election Naib Tehsildar for Kargil.
During the meeting, she directed the SVEEP Nodal Officer to increase publicity on social media and to extend awareness efforts, particularly by conducting targeted campaigns in schools and colleges to increase the EPIC ratio. She also emphasized the importance of engaging students studying outside the district of Union Territory of Ladakh.
Padma Angmo instructed the election team to conduct a thorough de-duplication exercise to ensure zero duplication in the voter list. She also advised representatives of political parties to appoint Block Level Agents (BLAs) and briefed them on the role and responsibilities of BLAs in bridging the gap between the government and political parties.
Additionally, she addressed grievances raised by representatives of political parties regarding EPIC enrollment, especially for citizens above 85 and students with disabilities.
