NIC Ladakh observes Sexual Harassment at Workplace Prevention Week (ending 9th December)
NIC Ladakh observed the Sexual Harassment at Workplace Prevention Week (4th to 9th December 2023) to sensitize its officials and outsourced manpower emphasize about What can we do to prevent sexual harassment. The Sexual Harassment of Women at workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 was notified on 3rd December, 2013 to provide a safe and secure environment to women at workplace. The commemorating of the week started with delivery of speech by the SIO, NIC Ladakh on gender equality at the workplace and pointed out it to be a critical issue that affects the well-being, productivity, and career trajectories of staff in general and that of women in particular. It is a violation of basic human rights and is recognized as a pervasive problem in workplaces. It encompasses unwelcome advances and other verbal or physical conduct that creates a hostile or intimidating work environment. Gender equality refers to the equal rights, opportunities, and treatment of all individuals, irrespective of their gender. Achieving gender equality in the workplace is not only a matter of social justice but also essential for maximizing organizational performance and innovation. SIO distributed digitally a copy of “Handbook on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace” to all the participants to gain and dissipate knowledge on the subject. A 1st hand committee was created to listen to such problems/ incidents. A feedback link was created on the official website for those who could not speak up but can write messages to prevent/ resolve the issue related to the subject.
