    RCFC, MAR&ES organize stakeholders’ meet cum workshop in Kargil.
    Kargil, March 07, 2024: Executive Councilor, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj/ FCS&CA/Forest & Wild Life, LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi attended one-day stakeholders’ meet cum workshop for progressive farmers on the theme of challenges and opportunities in the medicinal plants sector which was held at Conference Hall, KVK, Kargil-1.
    The workshop was organized by the Regional Cum Facilitation Centre (RCFC), Northern Region II, National Medicinal Plants Board, Ministry of Ayush, GoI in collaboration with Mountain Agriculture Research & Extension Station (MAR&ES) Kargil, Ladakh.
    Addressing the event, Executive Councilor, Er. Punchok Tashi applauded the organizers for conducting the workshop and said the event would aware the farmers. EC Tashi asserted that LAHDC, Kargil is committed to work for the welfare of farmers.
    The EC stressed on the farmers to shift towards cash crops over traditional ones, urging the adoption of technology to bolster income, adding to attend such workshops to stay informed about agricultural advancements.
    He also highlighted the significance of agricultural scientists and experts, urging their active involvement. Additionally, he highlighted the medicinal value of plants in the region, emphasizing their potential for economic and health benefits. Tashi said that the LAHDC, Kargil is committed to prioritize agriculture and allied sectors.
    While addressing the occasion, Professor & Head KVK, Kargil-1, Dr Mohammad Mehdi highlighted the medicinal value of plants in the region. He urged farmers to harness the medicinal properties of crops and make value addition in products through processing.
    The workshop featured expert-led sessions on the challenges and opportunities in the medicinal plants sector in Ladakh.
    Dr Faizan Ahmad, Professor cum Chief Scientist Incharge MAR&ES, Kargil presented the welcome address. Dr Athar Sidiq Zarger, Marketing Manager from RCFC, delivered a PowerPoint presentation on “Marketing in Medicinal Plants.”
    DFO, Kargil, Mohammad Ali gave a presentation on flora and glimpses of medicinal plants in Ladakh. Regional Director RCFC Northern Region-II, Ministry of AYUSH, GoI, Dr Sheikh Bilal Ahmed delivered a PowerPoint presentation in online mode on “Diversity of Medicinal Plants in Ladakh Region: Opportunities and Challenges.”
    During the workshop, an interactive session was also held with farmers addressing their queries and concerns. In the end, Dr Nazir Ahmad, Junior Scientist KVK Kargil-1, presented vote of thanks.
