Kargil, March 08, 2024: Sankoo Campus, Government Degree College Kargil today celebrated International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm.
The first session of the program started with recitation of Holy Verses by 2nd Sem. student Zehra Bee followed by a poetry session on Motherhood by Nasir Ud Din Khafi, Assistant Professor English and Dr Kifait Hussain, Faculty Urdu, Anamika Bisht, Skill Instructor High Altitude Trekking Guide spoke about mountaineer late Savita Kanswal (Tenzin Norgay National Adventure Awardee 2024).
The documentary on life, challenges and achievements of Kanswal made the girl students more curious and motivated about Mountaineering and Trekking career. She also spoke about her own educational journey at Nehru Institute of Mountaineering.
Dr Saleem Ahmed, Nodal Principal in his address congratulated the students and urged the girl students to come forward for expressing themselves in making the Women’s Day more meaningful in real sense.
Dr Saleem said that the maximum participation of women is detrimental to realize a society where both genders have equal role in shaping human society. He further said that a time is always anticipated when there would be no need to specify not only a day for women but every day shall be women’s day.
Student representative also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the challenges faced by girl students pursuing higher education.
In the second session, students were engaged in group activities -Story Telling Workshop on Indian Women Achievers and on the Spot Embroidery Competition. The students were given group assignments to portray through storytelling and poster presentations about Indian Woman Achievers.
Another group activity was on the spot embroidery on women empowerment. The students came up with exciting portrayal of the theme with elegant motifs and intricate designs on the embroidery frames. All student groups took very keen interest in these activities and made group presentations.
The winners were felicitated with cash prize while all other groups were given consolation prizes as well.
Dr Javed Naqi coordinated the whole event while as Dr Sakina Banoo moderated the sessions. On behalf of Jury Sajjad Hussain, Assistant Professor Chemistry shared his views on the student group presentations.
Faculty members Dr Mohd, Dr Suhail and Iqbal moderated the student activity sessions. Cho Cho Hurriya, Faculty of Sociology, presented vote of thanks to all students and faculty members for making the event successful.
