SAS&T, Leh, UoL organizes exposure visit for B.Sc. Agriculture Students.

Leh, March 06, 2025: As part of the B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture Skill Enhancement Course on Post-Harvest Processing of Vegetables, an exposure visit was organized for the students of School of Agricultural Science and Technology (SAS&T), Leh, University of Ladakh (UoL) to the Controlled Atmosphere Storage and Cold Storage Facilities at the Department of Cooperatives, Agling, Leh, UT Ladakh.
The visit was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Anwar Hussain, Course Instructor (Food Technology) and Coordinator, B.Sc. Agriculture.
During the visit, Er. Gulzar Hussain and Er. Jigmet Stanzin provided a detailed technical briefing on the functioning of these advanced storage facilities. They elaborated on the significance of controlled atmosphere and cold storage systems in preserving perishable commodities such as vegetables, poultry, meat, and dairy products.
The experts emphasized the role of temperature regulation, humidity control, and gaseous concentration management in extending the shelf life of these products, minimizing post-harvest losses, and enhancing food security in the region.
The visit offered students practical exposure to scientific principles and technological advancements in cold chain management, reinforcing their understanding of post-harvest handling and storage techniques for perishable agricultural products.
