Secretary Padma Angmo visits ITI, Polytechnic, anganwadi centres in Kargil
KARGIL, OCTOBER 02, 2021: Secretary Social/ Tribal Welfare, Higher/ Technical Education, Skill Development and Information & Public Relations Department Ladakh Padma Angmo visited Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Polytechnic College, and Anganwadi Centres here today.
The Secretary was accompanied by the District Social Welfare Officer Aga Syed Jamal, district officers of ICDS, Principal Polytechnic College besides other concerned officers.
At ITI Kargil, the Secretary visited Electrician Block, Plumber Block besides Fashion Designing Technology, Draughtsman and Mechanical Motor Vehicle Trade Block and took stock of the availability of facilities and equipments at the institute. She also interacted with the students and gave a patient listening to their issues and grievances.
Secretary Padma instructed the concerned officers to conduct week long entrepreneurship classes for the outgoing students which must also involve the participation of the bank authorities to provide information of bank related issues. She further instructed to provide soft skill training to the students with assistance from concerned external agencies.
Later, the Secretary visited the Polytechnic College Kurbathang and inspected the Department of Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, laboratories, and library.
The college authorities informed the Secretary that a 50 bedded hostel is functional at the college where 30 students are availing the facility. It was further informed that a laboratory for Civil Engineering Department is also under construction at the campus.
The Secretary instructed the Principal Polytechnic College to identify a suitable space in the campus for construction of a computer lab with a capacity of 200 candidates to conduct online competitive examinations. She asked the R&B Department to provide DPR for the same which must include provision for infrastructure, electricity, PC sets, and CCTV cameras.
Later, the Secretary also visited anganwadi centre at Khardung Pashkum where she interacted with Anganwadi Supervisors, Workers and ICDS staff. She instructed the concerned to collect data of malnutrition and monitor them from time to time.
On the occasion, Anganwadi Workers demanded to provide them training on new skills and techniques to which the Secretary instructed the concerned officers to prepare proposal for the same.
Earlier during a meeting, the Secretary instructed the Project Officer ICDS Kargil Nargis Banoo to keep the data on malnutrition updated and ensure proper monitoring. She also instructed the concerned to report growth chart of children of Zanskar Sub Division and further suggested to explore the nunneries at Zanskar to collaborate with the anganwadi centres.
To ensure proper supervision of anganwadi centres, she instructed to procure vehicles for the supervisors.
Secretary Padma also discussed the need to establish ITIs Drass and Zanskar. She instructed the concerned officers to provide honorarium for anganwadi workers for extra services they provide in different departments, adding she also directed for outsourcing of staff for Mahila Shakti Kendra Kargil.
The Secretary also asked the concerned departments to conduct survey of disabled persons to provide them prosthetics and said that an NGO will be consulted in this regard.
